Hi there, my great auntie had leukaemia for around 18 months. I went to see her in hospital in her final moments. I don’t know what type she had but she had to have blood transfusions and platelets
Hi Summer j ….. I am Mike and I help out in our various blood cancer groups.
I am ever so sorry to read about your Great Aunt….. my sincere condolences.
Blood cancers like Leukaemia can be very aggressive at times and often develop beyond the point of treatment being effective….. the blood transfusions and platelets were most likely part of her palliative, end of life care.
I see you have joined our dedicated…..
Bereaved Family and Friends Support Group
…..support group. This is a safe place to get support from other community members who are navigating the same path.
The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.
Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help or just want to chat.
Hi there, thank you so much. I’ve felt strange all day and I’m still feeling like it now
I have lost a number of family members over the years including my dad and my mum just a few years ago….. it is indeed a strange time as the death of someone close is such a sad time and there is no rhyme or reason as to how we react….. and deal with this.
Will you be involved in anyway with the arrangements for your aunts funeral?…. If so there is quite a lot of information in What to do after someone dies and many hospitals have bereavement services who may be able to offer support.
I see that you have put up a post in our dedicated Bereaved Family and Friends Support Group support group so let’s look first some group members to pick up on your post.
((hugs))
I’m not sure if I’m involved in any arrangements just yet
The link above will help you if you are…. but it does has some good helpful information.
You may well find it helpful to ‘talk’ at the moment…… so do consider calling our amazing team on the Support Line.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
