Hi! My mom has leukaemia. She got diagnosed 4 months back. She has Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Her chemotherapy is going on. We are supposed to start the consolidation phase of the chemotherapy from this week. But she keeps getting this fever 101 and above. The doctors did every test possible like blood culture, ECG etc.. To find out if there is any infection. But now she is in remission for the past 2 months and her MRD report is also negative. But she keeps getting the fever. Can anyone know the source of this strange fever? Doctors told me its an inflammatory fever. So whenever she is on steroids she never gets the fever but when she is off steroids within few hours she gets the fever.

Can anyone suggest something or went through something similar?

  • HI  and welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to hear about your mom. I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups.

I don’t have Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with 2 rare types of T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas the first in 1999 and second in late 2013 the second taking me Stage 4a so although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

From your post above I guess that you are not in the UK……

I have had multiply unexplained infections over my 25 years and honestly there was not much we could do to stop them, medication and time were the answers.
