I have stage 1 laryngeal cancer and going for Radiotherapy at the end of this moth in Australia. I always thought I would have very little side effects but a friend of a friend (who went through the same treatment ) said it was excruciating and has to be on morphine and couldn’t even swallow his split . I am rather terrified now . Anyone else been through this ?

  • Thank you

unfortunately biopsies can’t take place until 6/5 as person they want to do the op is away until then.

i just wish they hadn’t cancelled his checkup in February as they might have noticed something then.
he had an MRI this morning assessment next week so things are happening.

i will let you know how things go

  • Hi Charlotte.

I'm a bit late to the party but read your post and thought I'd reply.

Firstly, how are you doing and have you completed your treatment yet?  If so, I hope you're looking after yourself and fingers crossed for a positive recovery.

My fella was diagnosed stage 4 laryngeal cancer and had the tumor removed before his RT.  He's four weeks post treatment and is doing pretty good atm. During 30 fractions, over six weeks, he coped well and didn't need painkillers.  Post RT the side effects have been mainly fatigue and a slight waning of appetite, although he has maintained his weight to a greater degree.  His neck got a bit messy due to the radiation, he had a bilateral neck dissection, but I kept lashing on the Flamigel RT prescribed by his radiology team and it's now looking heaps better.  I still slosh cream on but just E45 now.

Honestly, throughout all this, he's only taken a small amount of paracetamol, proving everyone is indeed different.

Best of luck to you lass and take care.

Thank you for your message. I am so impressed your partner has not had much pain. I was on Morphine and Fentanyl.  Yes the flamagel is great and its such a rellief when the neck burn heals. I hope the recovery goes well.
