I have had kidney removed 1month ago and recovering well. I've been told it was a stage 3 and I need preventative treatment and have an appointment with oncologist 2nd July. I'm going to Portugal on 10th for 2 weeks I'm terrified of more treatment and worried about holiday as it will effect 5 others. Can I start treatment afterwards

  • Sounds like a reasonable time frame to me.

Even if onco request the treatment on 2nd July, I doubt the day centre would be able to schedule you in, in days.  A couple of weeks or plus is more likely.

  • Hi,

From experience, you have to start the treatment within 12 weeks after the operation. I started 10 days after my oncology appointment as we were getting very close to the deadline.

    Best wishes.

  • Sorry to hear you have to have extra treatment.

I've been assigned a urology nurse, could you see if there is one with your service. Alternatively call the consultants secretary explaining the timeframe. After everything you've been through, you need to look forward to your holiday.

  • Thank you that's given me hope 12 weeks are up 3 weeks after we get back. Are you finding treatment very difficult

  • Hi,

Not too bad but only had one cycle so far.

Side effects are manageable so far.

A few of us are going through it at the moment.

Check the "immunotherapy first dose" thread. A lot of info/experiences.

    Best wishes.

  • A few weeks delay can’t spoil things, and don’t be terrified, they have saved my life for three yrs and I’m still going strong, I had stage four
