Hello . I am new to this as I was hospitalized several weeks ago with a  gi.Bleed, during an abdomino ct scan, they discovered two masses on my right kidney 1.3cm  and 1.9cm. i was referred to a specialist at a cancer center. And after an MRI with contrast they are certain the tumors are malignant. one tumor it's in the center of the kidney, and the other is behind?. I needed a Blood  transfusion and got anemic from the GI bleed, but the surgeon feels I should take care of things as soon as I i'm up to it. My preops will begin the first week of July. N surgery will be the first week of august. At this point, they are planning for a robotic partial nephereectomy.

  • Hi hb21

I'm so sorry that you find yourself posting on here...not the forum that people want to join! But you will find plenty of support, empathy and advice (if you want it!) from others who have had a similar diagnosis.

It sounds as though your hospital are really on the ball and organising your treatment plan very quickly. This is a lot for you to take in. That is good, in that it doesn't give you time to build up too much anxiety. I hope you have support at home from family and friends to help you through this. Many people on this forum report that this waiting time is the worst! I didn't have surgery, so I can't offer any advice about the pre and post op, but I'm sure others will introduce themselves to you.

I hope all goes well for you with the partial nephrectomy in August.

    Stay strong

    xxx Kate

  • I realized after making the post to introduce myself

I may have missed some things. In addition to having recently found two small tumors on the right kidney, i wanted to add that.I am a sixty seven year old male. I am still working full time as a farmer. I had two stents put in my heart one year ago. Other than that, I am in good physical condition. I am relatively thin, the bmi is about right.. So I wanted to add this to my original post introducing myself. Thank you

  • Sounds like you are fit enough and young enough to make a very good recovery! I am 74, fairly overweight and unfit and I have had a full nephroureterectomy. My consultant said if I was any older or any less fit he would not do it. It has taken 6 months to feel fairly much back to normal.. I expect it will be far sooner for you but I would say please take care, treat yourself gently, don't expect to be dashing about within weeks. If you live alone be sure that you have lots of good easy meals in your freezer for a while! And rest when your body tells you to. Not easy if you are in a physical job so ensure you have enough help lined up if needed! Best of luck.

  • It sounds like your team are on the ball and planning ahead, which is good. I like that they are keeping you informed. I remember feeling sort of numb at first, if you can feel numb and panicked and terrified at the same time!  This is a good place to ask advice, express your worries or just talk to people who have been through something similar.
    Best wishes.
