I am new here. Even the navigation on this site is very confusing. I was diagnosed two days ago.

Cancer spread unfortunately and still waiting the consultation.

I would like to know more of this type of cancer and from the possibilities.

  • Hi again Marigol,

I have just found this post (how I navigate, is click on the "kidney cancer forum" at the top and then it gives me three categories on the forum. I sometimes drift over to take a look at another forum now that I am getting more confident with the whole site).

I am sorry to see you have been told it has spread. Not quite sure what stage in the process you mean you are at. I presume you have had scans that have diagnosed something? You haven't had surgery yet? Or do you mean you have had surgery and histology already? Is the consultation so that you can find out what your treatment options are?

There are as many cancers as there are people with them - in other words, pretty much every individual person has a slightly different diagnosis/condition/treatment plan. There are different types of kidney cancer, several different stages/grades, and several ways of treating it initially and then more ways still of giving adjuvant therapy to prevent it spreading/spreading further/recurring.

When you go to your consultation, take a list of all your questions to ask the consultant. If you can take someone with you - I am never able to so sometimes I miss something that has been said, or tune it out. If someone is with you, they will be able to remember or take notes.

If you navigate around this site, you will find posts from people with many different experiences with their kidney cancer, and also links to info on kidney cancer and surgery and potential adjuvant therapies. You should be given a booklet on kidney cancer at your consultation - ask for it! I think it's actually a MacMillan one but it's very readable and clear.

I've just found another one I was given also: it's called "Understanding Kidney Cancer - Surgery and Recovery" - that's a very good one too. Both booklets go into enough detail but not too much as to confuse or scare you. This latter, is produced by Kidney Cancer UK.

Take your time to navigate this site. The more you surf it, the more info you will find.

    Hugs Hugging
