I'm due to have a radical nephrectomy on Wednesday, I'm very anxious as it's a 16cm cancerous tumour, which doesn't appear ro have travelled anywhere! I haven't been told too much other than I might loose my spleen also and all the other issues of course. My fear is the anaesthetic and worrying i won't wake up! Anxious to say the least! Any help would be appreciated!
Hi Jude 55.
welcome to our community.
Im sure if you look back through all previous postings from Forum members you will see that nephrectomy is pretty common place. As for fear of the anaesthetic is concerned. I guess it something you’ve never experienced before or it’s been a while.
You don’t say why you are anxious about it. Modern anaesthetics are very safe these days so please don’t fret.
Good luck with the surgery on Wednesday.
Sending hugs.

Thank you Rojan, I'm anxious about the whole thing tbh, what to expect, in hispital and recovery! It is common place as I've read a lot of posts and they have helped a lot! It's just such a big op and it's all happened so quickly!
Thanks for the reply and luck and hugs!
I think diagnosis is sudden for most of us. Very often having no symptoms before hand and kidney tumour found only as having investigations for something else..Have a read of my profile which describes my post op recovery.
Will be thinking about you tomorrow..

Good luck tomorrow. All of us on MCS site have been worried about eacb aspect of this situation. All I can say us my NHS hospital were so supportive, kind and always answered all my questions. This is a big milesyone and let us know Thursday when you wake how you are....best wishes...Lxx♡
Hi
I had the same procedure on 12th June and like yourself that was my biggest fear but came through it all ok. It is a lot to take in. I am on the road to recovery and have felt absolutely fine most of the time. Your body will tell you when you can & can't do something.
Good luck for tomorrow will be thinking about you.
Hey I've only just got around to messaging back! As you might have realised by now I did wake up! I have a very large inscion and the op went very well they topk the adrenal gland as well as theat was effected too by the cancer! Recovery atm has been up and down, I can't believe the pain from the wind that keeps me awake at night, I have tried windeze tablets, peppermint tea and prune juice to keep my bowels moving! The wind is worse than the pain of the op I think!
Thank you for the good wishes!I hope you are all doing well in your recoveries! Xx
I never doubted you’d wake and also knew that you would let us know how things had gone. It sounds like the wind is the worst thing at the moment. I remember it well with both my nephrectomy and hysrectomy. You wonder where it all comes from. I found a small port a brandy helped as a bedtime wind relief. Don’t tell the doc I said so.
Hope everything continues to go well. Keep us updated.
