Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with kidney cancer last week, originally a substantial tumour was found on my left kidney by an ultrasound scan found on 14th June! I had a CT scan on the 25th June and the results on 26th June it has been a shock! I have a radical nephrectomy on the 21st July! I am pretty scared as I is all happening so fast which is a good thing in one way! Has anyone here had a similar experience?!

  • Yes this happened to me in March it is alot to take in and process I still believe it hasn't hit me properly yet but I am waiting on results from other area also which was found on the scans and mri

  • So you've had a nephrectomy or are you waiting?! I know they can't do it by keyhole as the tumour is too bug and it is touching my pancreas which they don't like!

  • I had it done there in march it's been pretty tough I know you don't know me but if you ever want a chat just email me it's very hard doing it on your own

  • Thank you Ebby, what us your email address! It doesnt matter that we dint know each other, we are living a shared experience! Have you had family support?!

  • I have 3 kids and a husband but 2 of my kids are disabled and my hubby isn't helpful at all but hey we will get through it do you have good family support.

  • Hi I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2016 and have had my kidney removed. I was cancer free till 2021 when my six monthly scans found small growths in my lungs. They were surgically removed but new growths appeared in my lungs. At that point I was put on targeted therapy. This has worked very well as my main tumour has shrunk from 4 centimetres to 0.8 centimetres. It’s early days but could be worse. Don’t despair it’s terrible but trust in the doctors and treatments. Lots can be done and Macillan can give you a lot of help. Good luck and be brave.

  • I am 58 with 3 grandchildren and 3 grandchildren and another on the way!my daughter and son live next door and are very helpful! Husband us inconsistent I his help! I'm sorry to hear you have 2 disabled children and a not so helpful Husband that must be difficult, I hope it hasn't hampered your recovery?! X

  • I'm finding it hard to be brave and not emotional and cry every so often! My tumour us 16cm by 13cm x10cm so pretty huge and the o ly symptoms I really had (for a long time)was a pain in my left side! I'm sorry ti hear that you had new growths in your lungs but really glad that the treatment is working!

  • It’s a huge shock finding out that you have cancer but hopefully you can live with it through it takes a long time to sink in. I try and think that everyone dies and I will have the best life I can and be positive. Obviously I have my moments like everyone else but I try to focus on the good things in my life. I hope everything works out well for you.

  • Thank you! What a lovely attitude ti have! I m trying, it certainly puts things into perspective! Xx
