Hi recently diagnosed with kidney cancer but terrified as I've got a heart condition as well they are going to remove the kidney in 2 weeks but terrified I won't get off the table any advice or help would be greatly appreciated

  • Hi Kenneth, if they are going to remove the kidney they are confident your heart condition is not a risk.  It's as simple as that.   Look forward to seeing your update afterwards xx

  • Hello, you do sound worried x as Mmum says the risks would have been taken into consideration. If you are worried though, do talk it over with the anaesthetist.

Re the op itself, I had the same last year and it wasn’t as bad I thought it would be. ( I know everyone is different but thought I would share that with you Blush).

Glad that you have found this forum, as the members are very supportive x

    Take care, Jules xx

  • Thank you for the reply really appreciate it, it's hard to get your head around which is causing me to be anxious which in turn brings on chest pain so not sure whether to mention this when I go for surgery

  • Hi Kenneth,

Easy to say i know but try not to be anxious. Try and be as calm and relaxed as possible.

I too had a nephrectomy last year though i don't have a heart condition. When i was leading up to op i remembered all the people that donate a good kidney so someone else may survive. That thought made me feel a little less anxious. Then i thought of the cancer on my right kidney hadn't spread yet. And tried to welcome the op as part of my greater survival.

These things did help divert my attention away from the worry i was beginniing to be consumed with.

Staying as calm as you can will also help your heart i'm sure.

Get some soft pillows. You will be bruised after op and they will help soften your surroundings and help to get comfortable which is difficult in the early days post op.

Keep posting on here Kennneth. It helped me hugely to read the experience of others with kidney cancer.

Reading human accounts, live so to speak, assured and comforted me more than a pamphlet or google ever did. The fact that many have a humerous take on their predicament makes them shine in my eyes.

Sorry to waffle on so much.

    All the best....Del.

  • Hi Kenneth, So sorry your going through it. We all feel scared.. Im awaiting a kidney removal due to a cancer diagnosis September last year...I have an iron diffisioncey and having infusions so the op can go ahead. Fatigue is the most dibilitating. Back pain too. My poor husband is having a hard time coming to terms with my illness but we have lots of support from this forum site too. ♡♡♡
