Hi Everyone
Just wanted to join to see if anyone has had any weight gain after kidney removal?
I found out, purely by accident that I had kidney cancer on 3rd December 21. Routine ultrasound picked it up and it was confirmed on the 3rd December. It was all contained within my left kidney put was too big to be partially removed so the whole kidney was removed on 11th Feb this year. To date, I'm still recovering slowly but over last month I've been gaining weight. Not at a rapid pace but I'd actually joined a slimming group to lose weight not put it on, lol. At times, my feet and ankles feel like they've swollen but they don't look it. I do get really tired during the day at times and my sleep at night isn't great. And I do still get pain in my left side, sore stomach and pains in my right side. Everything happened really quickly that I hadn't time to get my head around things and I didn't get to ask many questions. I had an horrendous time in hospital with pain and got no help, I'm sorry to say. Some of the nurses were brilliant but most of the time my calls for them to help with the pain were ignored. Sorry, this is a really long post. :(
Anyhoo, hopefully someone can offer some advice or tips.
Thank you xx
Hi Meloria,
i am exactly the same, diagnoses confirmed on 22nd January, left kidney removed on 1st February. My hospital experience was good until it came to discharge where the doctor was very ignorant and rude. The pain for the first few days was horrendous but soon eased. i still have pain in the left side and in the back on the right side, not sure if the pain on the right side is anything to do with the remaining kidney being at CKD stage 3b. i am struggling with my weight, tiredness and sleep. Have started going back to the gym, walking and watching what I eat. I feel like I have a lot of water retention around my stomach, thighs and ankles. I have a kidney specialist appointment next month for the remaining kidney and hope to get some answer and help from them, (fingers crossed for that.)
I hope you get what you are looking for from this forum and if anyone knows of anything that can help us please share it.
I know it is still only a few months since the operation for us but hopefully we will get there with right information and help.
Take care.
Supertramp (Julie)
Hi Supertramp
Love the name, lol. I'm also a Julie. Good to hear from you.
My right kidney has a cyst but they said its nothing to worry about. I don't have any other follow up appointments only a scan next February. Only get bloods done to check kidney and Liver function. My liver function wasn't great there but has improved, thank goodness.
If I put more weight on this week, I'll have to contact GP, not sure what they can do though.
Hope all goes well with your next appointment.
Best wishes xx
I had a partial nephrectomy end of Mar. I have gained weight and cannot shift it. I put it down to 4 weeks resting to recover and did only short walks for a while. I am however having bladder issues too. The urine sample was inconclusive so another one is to be done in 2 weeks. Anyone else experience the same? Full bladder feeling .constantly feel the need to wee....
I'm sorry to hear your having bladder problems especially because we're supposed to drink lots of water. I'm ok that way. Hopefully your next sample will be fine.
I've only managed a few short walks. Hopefully I won't put much more weight on, I couldn't stick get any bigger.
Hi Meloria,
The name comes from in my teens when we had CB handles (showing my age now)
I know exactly how you feel with the weight, I am finding it difficult to shift the weight. I am still trying to drink plenty of water and watch what I eat too, walk quite a lot and exercise regularly so don"t understand why I am not losing any weight.
Hope you can find the answer to your weight issue from your GP. Like I mentioned previously i will ask the kidney specialist when i have my appointment on the 4th July.
Keep your chin up, keep up with the slimming world and exercise and hopefully things will improve for you.
Take care x
I remember those CB days as well, lol.
Hope all goes well at your appointment.
Trying my best to not let this weight carry on get on top of me. But it could be worse so I'm getting up to go for a walk now.
Take care xx
