Hi All
i was diagnosed with a tumour in my left kidney early Feb after an ultrasound scan for gallbladder problems so the tumour was put on hold I was then taken into hospital with jaundice i am a lot better now and eager to get this kidney problem sorted as I will have to start dialysis after removal
i did have an appointment for Monday 6th June with the urologist and was eager to go as it is now 3 months since first diagnosed and I am e worried that the cancer may have spread then yesterday out of the blue my appointment was cancelled and it’s now over another week to wait
i was devastated as I feel as though my life is on hold my mental health is suffering and I can’t think of anything else as I am so stressed
I am also seeing another doctor and am really scared I will be back to square one
Although I have a different type of cancer to you I know how horrible waiting is. I was diagnosed with breast cancer about 2 months ago and, having had surgery, I'm now waiting for a start date for chemotherapy.
I find that immersing myself in things that I enjoy doing helps me to stop think about the 'what ifs'. Do you have any hobbies or interests that would occupy you?
A lot of people find mindfulness really useful and there are plenty of free apps on the internet that you could try if this is something that appeals to you. You may also like to take a look at this information from Macmillan on how to manage anxiety as it gives lots of useful tips.
It is natural to worry that the cancer may be spreading while you're waiting for a treatment plan to be put in place but I've been told that most cancers are slow growing. You could voice your concerns to your cancer nurse specialist, sometimes called a keyworker, as they have a duty to look after your mental wellbeing as well as your physical.
Do come back and let us all know how your appointment goes.

HI
Thank you for your lovely reply I am so sorry you are going through cancer as well and I hope you begin your treatment soon
i do try to stay positive but it’s not always easy I try to keep busy and keep my mind active to stop thinking about things I like to go out if only to have a coffee somewhere I do a lot of volunteering and that helps
I hope i you you are coping ok I find the waiting is the worst I think you can face things easier when you know what you are dealing with
I will let you know the outcome of the appointment on the 14th hopefully it won’t be cancelled again
Take care xx
Hi
I'm really sorry to hear your surgery was cancelled. I have had my left kidney removed and I was also like you, worrying that it would get bigger and spread but I was told that it was slow growing and that I more than likely had it for awhile. Mine was also found through an ultrasound. Couldn't believe it when they told me and to be honest I still can't believe it. But just try and think positive, its hard, I know, but you will get through it. I found its better to keep talking about how your feeling to family, friends and of course here. Hopefully your surgery will go ahead next time. Best wishes. x
