Hello Everyone

This is my first post to this group. My husband, Dell, has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer. He has a 8x9cm tumour on the kidney and scans have shown it’s spread to the lymph, adrenal, liver, lungs and spine. It has been a complete shock, he thought it was kidney stones…

This has literally happened all in the space of the last 5 weeks, so we are still completely reeling from shock and just feel like it’s a complete nightmare. How do you get through the first couple of months?

He has been put on 4 weekly 480mg Nivolumab and daily 40g Cabozantinib. Does anyone have any experience of this combination?

Thank you for reading this and kind wishes to everyone

  • Hello Keste and Dell,

I can’t begin to imagine what a shock this must have been for you both…especially as you thought that it was kidney stones. We are all at different stages on this site but what I  an say is that everyone is friendly and will help with advice where they can.

I am waiting to have my kidney removed later this month, so am nit currently on any treatment…..meaning that I can’t answer your specific question…..but did want to pass on my best wishes to you both.

Do keep in touch and let everyone know how you are going.

    Best wishes

    Jules xx

  • Hi Keste and Dell,

Sorry to hear of your current situation. I can relate to you some as far as the shock goes.

I'm having my right kidney (9cm tumour)  removed in 10 days time.

I would advise you to keep posting on here. Post anything. Your fears, your upset, your hopes. You will find many people can relate to your shock and fears. Some will be able to relate to the treatment your hausband is having. And i hope you will find comfort and support going forward.

    Sending best wishes ....Del.

  • Hi Keste & Dell

I hope you’re feeling well ! My dad is on the same boat ! It has been very difficult on us ! He started on 40mg cabozantinib daily and so far the only side effect is diarrhoea and fatigue. His first nivolumab treatment is next week .

wishing you and your husband all the best

    Dom

  • Thank you so much for your message. I’m not sure I’m dealing with the shock, more ignoring at the moment. Unfortunately Dell was admitted to hospital on Monday with a severe infection, he’s just started to improve slightly.

I really hope you operation goes well and send you my best wishes xxx
