Hi everyone,
I got diagnosed with kidney cancer 2 weeks ago and I'm due to go for a removal of the left kidney on the 15th March.
This has all happened very quickly as it was due to a annual ultrasound on my kidney stones in the right kidney in November that a shadow was found. I went for a CT scan and my worse fears were confirmed as a result.
I have a positive attitude as although the tumor is close to the blood flow it is contained within the kidney. However I'm very nervous about the operation and was wanting to chat with someone who has either had the operation or is in the same position as myself.
Thanks Phil
Hello
I had an unexpected diagnosis and a removal of my right
kidney with a 9 cm tumour 4 weeks ago. No decision for me to weigh up as surgeon told me no point doing a biopsy first as it had to come out. I’m waiting results Monday to find out if I need more treatment. I had no symptoms and was being investigated for gastro possible issues
it all happened so quickly I had to trust the surgeon and the multidisciplinary team. I was still in shock when it all happened and to be honest probably still am. My best support was from the MacMillan nurse who just talked to me and listened suggest that’s a good place to start and don’t read too much on the internet etc
happy to chat and good luck
Hi Phil,
I had a similar situation just before Christmas last year I had a CT scan and was informed in January that I had cancer of the left kidney.
Surgery took place on 1st February. The staff were amazing especially the Surgeon and Macmillan nurse. I will say the quicker it happens the better, less time for you and your family to stress about it.
The surgery was keyhole and i was allowed home after two nights in hospital. The only downside is finding out my remaining kidney is at stage 3 chronic kidney disease. More appointments with a kidney specialist to come.
Hope all goes well with your surgery and wish you a speedy recovery.
Regards
Supertramp (Julie)
Sorry to hear there is a problem with your remaining kidney.
Thank you
I asked loads and loads of questions but the focus for the team is the surgery for now and removing the thing that isn’t good for your body’s future.Speed of surgery is often where you feel out of control but it’s the thing I am most grateful for . I wouldn’t have known
Sometimes not having to weigh up options is good but can be daunting I found
happy to chat
