Hi all
I was told I had kidney cancer. 2 weeks ago.
I am lucky the constant said it is a friendly cancer, if they is such a thing.
I am having an operation on 7th September to remove it.
Be nice to hear from other people on they experience with kidney cancer?
Sean
Hi SeanP1 n welcome to the kidney cancer group
It's probably called a friendly cancer coz it's a slow grower compared with other cancers. There are also lots of treatments for it n more being developed ad we speak
I have been living with it since 2005 and on meds since 2013, with regular scans to monitor it. See my profile if you want to learn more
A no of ppl here are on Pazopanib, as am I but there are now a no on immunotheraphy too, where they often use a combo of oral meds and via the vein ( similar to chemo)
If you have any questions, someone in the group can probably answer them.
Good luck for 7 Sept. Do let us know how you get on
Sue
Hi
I will defo keep you updated.
Getting nervous about the op now. Never had a op before.
Sean
I have one of the top surgeons at doing this op. He has done over 250 and all gone well.
Think I am more worried about after the op. What to expect and the long term.
NO work for 6 weeks. Which I suppose is a good thing lol.
Sean
Yes SeanP1 I had a phased return. Which worked for me.See of you can negotiate one.
You an expect the nurses to get you up n walking, probably the next day. With a frame if need be.
Longer term. It'll be mostly just scans to monitor you. Hopefully they'll not find any seconndaries ( mets), otherwise you'll b even more closely monitored
My oncologist at the time was Paul Nathan, based at Mt Vernon hospital Im now under Ansnd Sharma. at Lister, Stevenage.
Paul Nathan is well known in his field. The surgeon was Damian Hanbury, also well known in his field.
He told me at the time if I went privately I'd not save any time n he'd end up using the same team of ppl.
Thank you for the quick response . After the scans we were told by Profesor David nicols ( urologist at royal Marsden hospital ) that will perform a whipple operation which means to remove the right kidney and some part of duodenum and pancreas however today after reading the MRI , doctor called me and said that it had spread to liver and bone marrow and they will not go ahead with the surgery as it is risky. They have advised immunotherapy first . Dad is feeling really weak recently and has anemia because of his . Any advise ?
Hi Sean I've just had s partial nephrectomy. It was done with robotic assistance. It was 3 nearly 4 weeks ago .I'm still s bit sore ,but it was better to have it this way than open surgery.it takes longer to recover . So you are lucky that they will be taking it out .when they do take it out of you its quite a relief.
