Hello everyone, I wondered if there was anyone who has had this issue and what they did to minimise it....
I had an open radical nephrectomy 8 weeks ago and was, thankfully, given the "All clear" last week. I am overwhelmingly grateful to the surgeons and the medical team that worked their magic for me and would agree to it all again in a heartbeat.
However, I have been left with a bit of a "flank bulge" that my consultant said he could not guarantee would go completely, that any progress with it would happen in the first six months. It IS making wearing clothes with waistbands awkward (though I DO appreciate that this is as much because of healing wounds and tender scar tissue as much as anything else at the moment.)
How have other people dealt with this and managed to work around the issue? Losing weight? A specific form of exercise? Any positive experiences and/or hints would be really appreciated.
Many thanks, and good luck to you all, I hope your journey is as positive as mine turned out to be. I know I am much blessed. xx
Hi Superteach, I’m glac to hear you’ve been given the all clear, what a relief for you.
I am struggling the same as you with what to wear, at the moment I can only wear a dress, it’s only been 5 weeks since my kidney removal. The stomach swelling is gradually starting to go down, duri the first few weeks I looked pregnant! I have been really disappointed that I have not been given any guidance regarding exercise and diet as like you I would love to wear my skinny jeans again butt the minute can’t see that happening, My follow up consultant appointment was over the telephone due to COVID and I would have appreciated a face to face follow up (albeit wearing masks ) to check my scars and check me over really!
if anyone has any experiences or advice I too would be interested to hear.
Wishing you all the best in your recovery.
