hello I’m new to this and new to discussing anything about my personal experience other than to close family.
I was diagnosed with kidney cancer October 2020. I didn’t have any symptoms at the time apart from a blood in my urine with no pain. I washed rushed through to be scanned so this was worrisome but also happy that something was being done.
As this was just after the first lockdown I think that the doctors surgeries were taking early symptoms seriously as lots patients with any symptoms of cancer had been missed due to the first COVID lockdown.
within a week I had already had my appointment to see a urologist before I had my scans so this was quite scary. In my head I thought maybe I had kidney stones and they have passed now as I have no blood at all in my urine and totally clear so if I had left this for another week or so I would of not made a doctors appointment as I felt absolutely fine.
I had my surgery a few weeks later it all happened so fast.
I ended up having open surgery to remove my whole kidney and to release it from my colon as it looked as if it was invading it but to my relief it came away easily as I was also told that I would most likely have a colostomy bag after operation but I didn’t. so I ended up with a very very, large scar. (This is quite long I’m sorry )So my outcome was pT3a grade 4 tumour. It hadn’t spread anywhere else in my body so that was such a relief. I didn’t need any treatment but as it was a grade 4 tumour it has a high chance to recurrence which was a real blow to me. So I have 3 monthly scans. I’m due for my second scans next week this is why I am awake at 3am as having one of my sleepless nights this is the time my head starts to work overtime. I am positive and will feel happier once I have another clear scan.
Hi Staying ,and good to read your message I hope the 2nd scan goes well.
My story is similar to yours had my kidney removed in may but a grade 4 tumour on 3 month scans too got my first next month .
Not much you can do about just roll with it and hope everything is clear but I do think every ache and pain is something more than it is .
Thanks for sharing all the best Ry
hello still here. Thank you for replying. Good luck with your first scans I couldn’t wait to get my first one out of the way as like you every pain headache was linked to my kidney cancer when it came back clear I could now brush off all those symptoms.
Also I didn’t even know I had a tumour in the first place as had no symptoms apart from blood also anaemia which was also linked but suffered with anaemia when I was younger so I would of never known until it was probably to late. So seeing the blood was a blessing.
I now look at the fact we are having a sort of MOT every three months so that’s all good. I also agree we just have to roll with it So that’s positive. I was told I was quite young to get it (50) at the time well turning 50 was old for me but positive I will be around for a long time. The oncologist scared me a bit but I looked at it as my scans are clear now. I will deal with anything that may come up.
Once again good luck with your first scans. Take. Care
