Hi there. I was diagnosed 5 weeks ago with Left kidney cancer .Next step is a full nephrectomy but I’m actually feeling quite positive about it all . Am happy to help anyone here who needs a positive voice.
I tend to manage trauma with laughter, sarcasm & by sharing with those who can support me . But I do appreciate that may not work for everyone !
Take care all, be safe - don’t get run over by a bus !
Thanks for this upbeat message
Hi I know your message was posted a few months ago- but it caught my eye. I could do with some of your approach to dealing with everything. I heard yesterday I have a very large tumor and they are removing kidney sometime in next few weeks. How are you doing, have you had your op?
Hello J1000, I’ve had my full nephrectomy - that was on June 7th & I’m still recovering. The worst part of the whole thing was the time spent in hospital away from my husband & the dogs ( I missed the dog’s more, but they can’t make cups of tea or dinners! ).
The issues I’m finding in recovery are: great deal of tiredness doing the smallest of things. Didn’t attempt any housework until week 5 ( alas !!).
The other issue has been discomfort along the whole of my left side as they went in between the ribs and have to cut the muscle to open them . Feels like I’ve swallowed a cricket ball. But I’ve nev played cricket ! Thank gawd it wasn’t a volleyball
My follow up telephone call was 6 weeks after & prognosis is good , just scans .
Happy to chat if you want to . But I realise not everyone’s story is mine . My feelings towards all of this are iI know that I can’t change yesterday & sometimes we don’t get a tomorrow , so take eh day as a gift. Bitter experience of other trauma has taught me life can be short but positive people get positive things . It’s a choice !
Hi KSJ0450, I have just been diagnosed too. Right Kidney, with a couple of spots on my Lungs..., ditto initial treatment. I too am usually A half full type of person, with what is often described as a gun ho way of getting on with things. I am trying to stay positive, but this one has blind sided me a bit. Love to keep keep in touch.
