Hi all,
I’ve just joined
Im in so much pain post right kidney biopsy in early January 2025. The Radiologist hit my nerve with the biopsy needle and the pain just won’t go. It’s quite severe and it’s there every day.
Anyone else experienced anything similar? Also pins and needles down right leg and in to foot.
Also had to go to A&E on Monday as I couldn’t empty my bladder without a fight. Blood clot in loo and just lots of blood. That happened twice then it settled as I wasn’t an actual emergency.
I regularly see my hospital Urology team so they’re aware of all of the above. They just said it does happen with RCC and not really any help.
Im very worried about my nerve. This tumour has been under surveillance for years and prior to the biopsy I never had any pain or bleeding.
I have RCC grade 3 about 6cm.

Hi Cathy/Pringle2507 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and any treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I am so sorry to hear about how much pain you are in and for such a long time.
Your urology team should be doing something to help you. Is it possible to obtain a second opinion ?
I wish I could be of more help but I have had no issues following my own biopsy so cannot offer anything useful.
All I can do is hope and pray that something is done to help you.
Apologies for being of no concrete help. Hopefully there is somebody on the forum who can come up with something.
Vicki
Hi Vicki,
Thanks for your reply. I’m feeling very alone at the moment for the first time ever.
I don’t know exactly what happened during the biopsy other than the Radiologist saying he hit the nerve.
I had a CT with contrast yesterday and lots of blood in my urine since yesterday evening.
this also happened last Monday and I went to the local A&E.
I saw my Urology Team on the Tuesday and they said just to keep drinking water.
Surgery’s planned but I have a possible cardiac issue so the possible op is delayed.
Local A&E won’t treat me as an emergency if I can pass urine to any degree. My Team are at a different hospital and to be fair they don’t help me.
Tumour was growing slowly before the biopsy but no pain or blood. It was quiet.
Im very glad that your biopsy went ok :) Will you be having surgery?
Have been thinking about a second opinion yes.
Best Wishes,
Cathy
Cathy,
It's terrible what has happened to you as a result of the biopsy. It shouldn't be like that and the person responsible for making such an error should be doing everything they can to sort out the pain issues.
My biopsy was just to confirm the type of kidney cancer. I was scheduled for a radical nephrectomy originally but it was kiboshed due to size of tumour (13cm) and position.
Am on immunotherapy and targeted drug to try and shrink it. Hope it works.
All the best
Vicki
