Odd Thoughts

Hi

I've dealt with cancer on two occasions. Bladder and Prostate, so you could say I'm a veteran. Now, as I explained recently I only have one kidney and have a slow growing cyst that has been under observation for over 8 years.

The situation changed last year when the cyst started growing (I have mentioned this before), now at 3.8 cm. My consultant wanted a further scan in 3 months, but after a chat my CSN (highly qualified) has indicated that she wants a partial nephrectomy done (possibly cryogenic). She has my full support and the MDT are meeting next week (it would have been this week, but there's been a Bank Holiday).

I'm happy for the procedure, it's a great relief, but I started to get thoughts of: "what if the team say no." Unlikely I know, given my CSN's experience and I imagine she has made some preliminary moves, well she indicated that was she was going to do. Just started a little anxiety out of the blue.

Any similar experiences?

  • Anxiety is an all apparent feeling going through our different cancer journeys .i can relate in that aspect.i seem to get it with needles quite a bit and visits to hospital although i know the NHS have and are fantastic.

i hope someone can help you in your exact question and I'd like to wish you well in yours.

  • Hi

Thanks for the reply. I think my main concern is that the rest of the team may over rule my CSN, which is unlikely. I'm a prime candidate and my kidney function is good, but for some unknown reason I'm letting bother me too much.

  • Totally understand.

My mind tells me similar....what if u can't get the robotic partial nephrectomy...etc, etc ...as in another town...then the other side of my head gives the logical response.

Keep on it, establishing contact with people dealing with your care.controlling what we can helps anxiety.
