Stitches

I'm post-op three and a half weeks, and have a problem with one of my incisions from partial nephrectomy. I had to go to the local minor injuries unit as it was so painful. The nurse pulled out a stitch which hadn't dissolved, and the wound site is still so painful. It's also weeping. I feel like I've taken two steps forward, and ten back. I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. My mood is dreadful, I don't want to do anything, go anywhere. Just want to go back to normal.

  • Hiya sweety...you need to be patient and let yourself heal.

I know it's boring and frustrating which is why ur feeling down and grumpy

To be honest I having been a bit low and grumpy too. It's a lot for your brain to take all these changes on board.

My hubby has been encouraging me to sit in the sunshine...I don't want to because I always feel cold...I compromise by just going outside for 10 mins, blanket over my knees...coffee in hand...and I know I am getting my vitamin d which is good for recovery

I get very tired and don't sleep well but on a good day I try and do a small walk with my puppy

Think I am trying to say is u will get better. You can't change what has happened but u can try and find little bits of joy each day.

I know it's hard...but trust me..dig a little deeper into that gorgeous soul of yours and accept what u can't do at the moment and slowly get ur strength back..

    Hugs always here

  • Fleabane - you do know that your words help me a lot. Yes I am getting frustrated because I can't do too much, but have been out in the garden soaking up some sun. I am enjoying watching my seedlings flourish, and the other flowers budding into life. I suppose I have to be thankful for that. Acceptance is hard, but I will get stronger with a positive approach.

Thank you for the hug, and for helping.

Onto your scar...mine is a zig zag so I call it ziggy....most dissolved quickly but 2 took longer and were a tiny but weepy and got slightly crusty

When u say painful, do u mean the scar tissue...which will be tender because of new tissue growth.

Just a matter of keeping it clean. If u feel there is a small infection just contact ur doctor or team for antibiotics .

Now as it healed it got quite dry so I faithfully rubbed in neutrogena hand cream concentrated because it looks like vaseline and stays on longer than other lotions. Really helped.

Or do u mean a painful tugging of the skin...this tugging can be helped by gently massaging around not on the area. I was given a leaflet about it. It could be the muscles and interconnecting tissue healing tightly.

Now it's time for u to relax. Get a good night's sleep and find the joy in tomorrow

If u need anything just give me a nudge..

You are on my friends list so u can always private message...

    Hugs sweetheart

  • Just seconding what Fleabane says about the cream and massaging etc: I found when I had my hysterectomy that massaging the holes as they started to heal, was very comfortable. Just gently - in a circular motion. They were also itching at one stage and my neighbour gave me a pot of E45 cream which helped a lot to both massage and moisturise.

Atm after my partial nephrectomy I still have the undissolved glue over all my scars - it hasn't yet peeled off and I'm not sure how long it's supposed to stay on. So I am not massaging much just yet, and not putting any E45 on them yet. If the glue is still there another week I'll get back to my medical team and ask them if I am supposed to soak it off or something. The implication was that I shouldn't soak for four weeks. So perhaps the glue comes off once I do soak...I don't seem to get much info about these things.

Massaging your scars will help long-term to prevent adhesions - not completely prevent, but will help.
