Hello Again everyone. We are still in the waiting game of hearing any results from my husband CT scan of kidney end of Jan.                                          He was told after the scan that they needed to do an MIR scan of his spine which has petrified us both as we are now thinking cancer has spread to his spine. Has anyone else had this after a kidney scan?                                                                              His original consultation had been put back till 20th March so we still have 4 weeks to find out any results,  although iam going to try and get this brought forward.                                                        Sorry if none of this makes sense, are stress levels and anxiety are through the roof and we are as iam sure many of you can relate to terrified of the results.                                                                         Hope everyone else is getting the answers and support they need and strengthen to fight their fight xx

  • Hi, i would try and not worry about the scan which is easier said than done for some. when i went in i had my ct scans then later the dr said he had booked me in for a brain scan too, was done as a just incase, which could be what their doing with your husband, you can always ring and ask the consultant why the spinal scan is being done, im the type that sees no news as good news and my partner didnt like that as  she was worried sick and i didnt let it bother me, i told her ill worry when they give me something to worry about, im lucky as i dont get anxiety so its difficult to put myself in your position, everybody reacts differently, maybe my brain is broken lol

Theres lots of lovely people here that you can ask questions and talk to, they helped me.

  • Hi Simon12345

Thank you for taking the time to respond. It sounds like you have a great attitude to all that you are going through.  My husband believes what will be will be but it doesn't stop the worry especially about how we are going to tell our little ones and make everything as normal as possible for them.

Yes, they normally have a meeting on weds so we will ring on thurs to see if his scan has been reviewed and what's happening and will do best to get consultation moved forward another 4 weeks to hear any results form any of the scans seems crazy!

I hope that you have received the treatment you need to help you on the road of recovery.

  • Hi,

I think part of whats helped is talking on here and i looked on google, which people say not to do, but from what i could see kidney cancer seems to be ones of the better ones to get as its either gone at surgery or if it spreads the treatments seem to deal with it well so most people can still have a normal life.

I dont have kids but i think if i did i would wait until i know all the information.

For me the worst part is waiting to be told whats going on.

I do hope it goes well for your husband and that it gets easier for you. My parther was really upset and couldn't understand why i wasnt but with time shes got much better and isnt worrying or as anxious.

My treatment has been good so far the staff at the hospital were fantastic, now its just a wait to see the consultant to talk about how surgery went and what happens going forward, there will be scans over the next few years so a long wait to see if it comes back or not, but ill deal with that when the time comes. Just got my other op on the 28th to deal with now, but thats being done at the same place my tumour was removed, so at least ill know some of the staff.

    Hope you hear something soon.

  • I'm so glad that your kidney cancer was diagnosed early so that you can beat this horrible disease. Unfortunately my husband died suddenly and unexpectedly and was diagnosed that he had kidney cancer. Neither of us knew which was so cruel. It was a saddle blood clot which killed him. Please look out for signs of blood clots which can be caused by kidney cancer. My husband was 53 and was working the day before so no idea how long he had the cancer for. Take care and good luck for the future x

  • Hi Simon12345

Thank you for your words of reassurance! I can completely understand how your partner was feeling.

The not knowing what's happening is awful,  we are gearing up for something we just don't know what yet and unsure what the future will hold! Just praying can all be treated !

I hope your treatment and experience with the hospital and staff continues to go well.

The power of positivity can work wonders.

  • Don't know if it was detected early or not, it was 6.7cm x6x6 so fairly large but cant say if it was a fast or slow growth.

I dont know the signs of a blood clot, will have to look that up.

Im sorry to hear about your husband, it's horrible he died so young.

Wish you the best for the future.

  • You're welcome.

The cancer really affected my partner, my mother had breast cancer last year(fine now) and we would joke about it, my partner couldnt understand how we could be so blasé about it.

The only issue i had was the waiting to hear what was happening, i hate waiting. Lol

I have my fingers crossed for you both and that once everything is moving forward he gets sorted and back home asap.

    Hope you hear something soon.

  • Thank you for your reply..my husband tumor was 12cm x11cm and his other kidney 4cm x3cm. So quite large. If you are having regular blood tests and scans I guess that they will pick up blood clots.

    Take care x

  • Wow, thats is pretty big, the poor guy in the bed next to me had a 29cm one that took 2 surgeons to remove, after seeing a pic of his and his scars i felt that i couldnt really complain about mine.

Ive had 1 blood test so far for renal function, not sure when i get my first scan or how often they will be, but see my consultant in just over a week so should find out then. Not to long to wait. Have my next op between now and then so have that to look forward to.

I decided to help the partial research team, as their trying to find out what treatments or ops are best for different people, they chose my op and i have to fill in questionnaires for the next 2 years, hopefully the trials will help people who find themselves in the same position.

    Take care.
