Has anyone found that their apetite has grown massively after surgery? Mine was pretty good prior (I was trying to lose weight) and post surgery I’d lost nearly a stone in weight (mainly due to the loss of a kidney and also due to barely eating for a week afterwards). Now my apetite has returned with a vengeance and I can’t stop eating!! I’ve gained over a stone and I’m not sure why.
My diagnosis came after losing 10kg. Had poor appetite and couldn’t eat some foods I’d loved before. Post radical nephrectomy after huge rooftop incision and slow recovery I’m now eating everything again and in between meals, except hate olives now. Trouble is very slow to put on weight but body still healing itself, so not surprising I suppose. Awaiting to find out next step as my tumour was very large.
I could always eat a lot and stay slim when younger, and not too bad in older age so guess I’m lucky in that respect, but never expected advanced kidney cancer so await the next step.
Hi oz0408,
I am glad you are having your op soon like us all worry and stress stops us eating and sleeping, but once you have you op and know where you are going from there you will feel better the unknown is alway worse than you imagine, do you know what op you will be having mine was an open cut so I thing it takes a bit longer for recovery, I went in on the Monday morning and was home Friday afternoon, sending you hugs and best wishes Sandy
Hi Mistoff,
I am glad you are eating again the only problem is everyone heals in they own time and there are a lot of foods I loved but cannot eat now, I think mine problem is the loss off taste but I am still struggling on I did not start putting on weight on until after my month of stomach injections, they were the worst for me I was in a bit of pain and black and blue from the injections my husband would pinch my stomach and I used to stab myself all I remember was the pain, well less of that you don’t what to hear me moaning onwards and up wards Sandy
Yes miserable times really, I stuck myself in thigh as no abdominal fat! I’d been theatre sister all my working life and was not prepared for renal cancer or the massive op! Live and learn - but doing really well now 40 days post op. Just need to know what next as I had big tumour
