I had my left kidney removed approx a month ago, prior to surgery my urinary habits where quite normal, now however I cannot sleep because I'm waking literally every two hours on the button to get up and go the loo and it's killing me, I haven't had a proper nights sleep since my surgery. Has anyone had a similar experience? if so please for the love of god tell me it gets better because I don't know how much longer I can go on like this. I'm currently trying to get hold of one of the specialist nurses involved in my treatment and everyone is away!! I'm also close to finishing a course of antibiotics to help with testicular pain and also pain in my lower abdomen, the pain has eased a lot but still hasn't gone away.
Hi Tomcat,
I had my left kidney removed about 2 years ago and most of the associated plumbing. After the operation I did think I was needing to pee more often but over time I have managed to control the urges and have regulated back to normal again now. Don't forget they will have told you to drink plenty of fluids to keep your remaining kidney in good shape and more fluids means more pee. The abdominal and testicular pain is associated with the trauma of surgery in that area and the need to reconnect the veins leaving the testes to somewhere else because the renal vein will have been clamped off. the lower abdominal pain in my case went away after about two months but the testicular pain lingers on although much reduced now. It's not ideal and can be quite uncomfortable at times but again I have learned to live with it as it is an artefact of the life-saving kidney surgery.
I hope your pain and discomfort ease soon and I wish you well for the future.
Kind regards,
Mike
I’m having the same symptoms as you, I have to pee in the night every couple of hours, I stop drinking early evening but my bladder is full. I asked the consultant and he sad things would settle down but seven weeks on it’s still the same. just wondered whether things have improved for you or whether you got any help to alleviate the symptoms. Before this I rarely needed to get up in the night. Hope you’re well on with your recovery.
