Hello All,
I was wondering if you could share or advise about what to consider for discharge.
I had my radical nephrectoy 7days back, and slowly gaining strength in hospital. Clips are still on. And the pain is sometimes quite uncomfortable but manageable wth pain killers.
I am asked to consider being discharged, but OK if I stay longer until I fell comfortable.
I was wondering if you could share your experiences or advise, after radical nephrectomy. I still have clips which worries me a bit..
Thanks
Sorry I can't help about clips etc as had my left kidney removed August 2021 by keyhole surgery so my stitches disolved themselves. All I can say is the pain does ease slowly & movement gets easier over time. When u do go home wear baggy trousers as I remember my stomach was swollen & a bit lopsided. Also a cushion or pillow for the car to put under seat belt.
Take care & don't do too much though you probably wont want to.
Let us know how you get on.
Betty
Hi Vinay
same boat as me then I had my kidney removed a week last Monday clips are still sore and plenty of them, I am having them removed this Saturday morning which I know is going to be uncomfortable not really painful though so I am told .
I am managing the pain with pain killers but have found they have since made me constipated so be wary of this, I will let you know about the removal of the clips over the weekend !
good luck stay strong best of luck milli
Hi Vinay,
All I can say is don’t leave until you are ready to go home, the hospital should arrange for the pain management team to visit you and set a medication routine for you, also make sure you are prepared to give yourself the injections for blood clots which you have for the next 28 days, when you do leave wear loose clothes and slip on shoes so no bending to get dressed, have a couple of pillows or cushions to sit on and place over your wound, I am not sure about the clips as I did not have them, when you do go home you will find it a bit strange but you will sleep better in your own bed and than take it easy your body will let you know when you are ready to do more properly when you have had the clips out, there are a couple of other members who will be able to tell you more as they have experienced clips themselves, take care and let us know how you get on Sandy xx
Hi Sandy 55 Vinay
some really brilliant advice here and I found invaluable, a pillow in the car is a must place it on the side where your staples are it really helps . Do not forgot to place one in you bed too really helps keeping the duvet off the side where the staples are, you should be shown how to do the injections by 1 of the nurses before you come out make sure you have enough pain killers be you leave I was only given 2 days worth, be mindful that the mass may lead to you being constipated so watch out for this , staples should be taken out after ten days I had to buy some dressings for the smaller incisions so unable to change the larger one at all, these have remained sore throughout but I put this down to knitting together?
I am sure that others may have provide or have more advice that has not been covered!
Good luck and god bless ! Milli1964
