Hi all I'm Mark. I had a partial nephrectomy in January of this year. I had scans about 8 or 9 weeks ago, I haven't heard anything back from them. When they first found the cancer on my left kidney they said there was a speck on my lung. I was told that when scans are done. They would keep there eye on it. So do I take the view that no news is good news. I've tried ringing them at manche royal, but never get through to ask anyone anyone else had the same thing just looking for some awesome advice

Wishing everyone good luck in these crap times

Regards mark

  • Hi Mark,

I had a complete left nephrectomy in June 2021 following which I have regular thorax and torso scans about every 8 weeks.  It is my understanding that the radiographers flag any anomaly seen for the consultant. On one occasion I was informed by the consultant that there was a small nodule in my lung but that wasn’t of concern.  I have had several scans since then but no further mention of the nodule.  I’m assuming it’s still there but either benign or still of no concern. I hope this helps.

    wishing you all the best.
    Mike

  • Hi Mark

My RCC has spread to my lungs so too late for a nephrectomy.  I am on immunotherapy with 3 monthly CT scans to check for new growth or shrinkage.  After the scan the radiographer writes a report to my oncologist and I go in to speak to him about it, look at the scan on the screen etc.  My last scan (29th Aug) is grossly overdue.  My oncologist advises there is a shortage of radiographers and my region  (Fife) is more adversely affected than others he deals with.  I can chase by phoning up radiology, although when I chased again yesterday there was an answering machine and no ability to leave a message.  I can also chase my oncologist - he has an email route in.  But the bottom line is radiology write a report/assessment and send it to the consultant requesting the scans.  I'd try the secretary of the last consultant you were seen by.  If you have a letter with your last appt on there's normally a phone number on there.   Good luck.

  • Hi Mark,

I had too wait for my three monthly scan results, it seems to take so much time as they all seem to be under staffed, my oncologist keep sending messages to them to see if they could be done quickly but no such luck, finally it was good news for me my kidney and liver tumours are shrinking, I know the wait is really worrying but your oncologist will keep the results soon hopefully I had to wait 8 weeks I will be due for my next scan next month.

have hope it is always a waiting game regards Sandy xx

  • Mark24682744, Have you asked to speak to your consultants secretary,  My hubby is under the Christie and if we need to know anything about his scans treatment etc I ring his secretary and she always tells us whats happening,  goid luck and take care .

  • They do seem to action the dodgy results very fast and take their time with the rest ! I went scan/result/referral/consultant in six days flat.

  • Hi Mark

from my own experience I must admit it has been extremely quick, I am not to far from you in Cheshire, I went in for something completely different as most have found , that having a scan they found something highlighted on my left kidney on the 26th September ! Follow up scans and was told it was a cancerous tumour less than 2 weeks after with a appointment with the surgeon in a month and my surgery booked in at Stepping hill next Monday 14th Nov to remove the infected kidney.
wishing every success with your recovery and hope you get answers from the Royal .
