Hi everyone,

I was meant to go for my pre op yesterday as I am due my operation on April 28th. I woke up yesterday morning feeling unwell and so did a covid test which was positive. Whilst air was a bit concerned that I was going to have to rearrange my appointment, I thought thank goodness I have it now and not closer to the operation date.

I was quite shocked to find out that the guidelines for a general anaesthetic for elective surgery is to delay the operation for 7 weeks. This is to due to the effects  covid can have on the respiratory system. There are some exceptions to these guidelines and surgeons and anaesthetists are able to risk assess on a case by case basis. This is what is happening with me and so I am anxiously waiting for the decision. I will be devastated if my surgery is postponed but do want to make sure that it is safe for me to be operated on.

The reason that I am posting this is that there will be people in our on line community waiting for surgery who may wish to take additional precautions  to avoid contracting Covid.

I hope that this message helps at least one person.None of us want to be in this club and to have an added pressure at a time when we are all feeling vulnerable is so not what we want.

Sending love to everyone, Jules xx

  • Hi Jules,

Nice to hear from you very interesting above Covid, I hope it doesn’t affect your surgery especially if you did not have it too bad, take care and hopefully you will have your op sooner rather than later. Sandy xx

  • Thanks Sandy,

The good news is that my operation can go ahead. The consultant rang me and they have risk assessed it and feel that they can go ahead if I am happy to do so. The risk assessment is based on different factors such as general health/ covid vaccination history etc

    I am so relieved x

thanks for your lovely message, Julie x
