Hi busy bee. Had my pre op yesterday. Covid and isolation as from today and hopefully op on Tuesday although not definite decision yet which is very frustrating as it’s a 3 hour drive to hospital as my problems need a bigger hospital. We have to rely on friends to take us. I have had 4 surgeries before. The biggest being my left kidney removed in 2005. I now after all these years have a secondary which is in my shoulder. It will be very scary for you but my recovery last time took a while but i got back to myself and was very active up until April last year. Had lots of cruises etc and moved 10 years ago to live by the sea. That was the best thing we ever did by the way. I know it’s easy for others to say but positive thinking is definitely the way forward. I wish you and everyone else getting surgery a very speedy recovery and that they have good people surrounding them with love ️
Hello Busybee, I do feel for you….you have waited to have this done but now it’s here you are scared……….which is natural. I guess when fear takes over then it’s hard to think of the positives the operation will bring. I was at a health and well-being conference last week as part of my job. We were actually hosting the conference.One of the speakers talked about her journey with breast cancer. She mentioned talking to her children about her cancer.. She then had her surgery and said to the children ‘mummy’s cancer is now not inside her, it’s in the bin in the hospital’. It was a simple message to her children, so that they could understand, I know that this it over simplified i what happened….for one thing it’s sent for analysis. However I decided that ‘it’s in the bin in the hospital’ would be my mantra when I actually go for my surgery.
If you are becoming really anxious you could try some breathing techniques. These do work. This is because when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. The brain then sends this message to your body. Those things that happen when you are stressed, such as increased heart rate, fast breathing, and high blood pressure, all decrease as you breathe deeply to relax. Here are some techniques.
