I had my kidney removed on Friday and was back home Saturday night! Quite a surprise, as I was told to pack for 5 days. Yesterday was a bit of a blur, but thankful my husband has been able to help out with meds, etc.
Very swollen and sore, but apart from that all good. Walking like a hunched old person, but hoping to improve posture over the next few days.
Took advice from Betty on this site who advised getting baggy/roomy trousers which has made life a little easier.
Hope this helps anyone at this stage. Take care.
Hi Carney,
I think that was a bit quick sending you home the next day, did they say it was because of Covid, good advice from Betty about the loose pants and Elliekate when I took my journey home after four days, I could have done with a pillow I think my husband found every pot hole and dip in the road, I hope you recover well take care Sandy
Thanks Sandra
I was in HDU and although had physio before I left, I had such a poor nights sleep, (30 mins) I was keen to rest in the quietness of my own house. The other patients were quite poorly and needed a lot of care and attention.
I did ask if it was related to Covid, but they assured me the unit was "Green" so all patients were screened. The HDU only had four beds and one bed was unoccupied.
I did feel very safe and asked my husband to bring a pillow for my tummy. Great advice
Still early days. Still swollen and sore. Little steps .
Hope you are doing well.
Hello Carney
I had my kidney removed on Tuesday and came home on Thursday. I can relate to walking like a hunched old person but at least we're walking aren't we and things can only get better or so I keep telling myself. The baggy trousers sounds a good idea but what about the knickers they could be a bit trickier. I'm glad I've found someone on here that is at the same stage as I am its always easier if you know that you're not the only one. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Hello Llyanna
I haven't had a problem with knickers. As I have a catheter fitted, they offer a little "support"!!
I've increased my walking distance over the last couple of days, which I'm pleased with. I'm more upright and feel a little less "elderly"
Are you getting out and about yet? We have been lucky with weather being so mild, I do try to get outside once a day.
Keep in touch and let me know your progress
Take care and stay safe
Hello Carney,
i have been walking up and down the hallway, kitchen and lounge. I haven't been outside yet as I was told to isolate for two weeks. I am craving the fresh air and sometimes stand by the open back door to take some deep breaths.
I think the surgery is healing well as I am finding it a bit easier getting in and out of bed but the anaesthetic really makes you feel grotty, doesn't it?
I hope you're progressing very well, the tip of keeping a diary is very good and I will be doing that from now.
take care.
