Returned home yesterday after my operation. Obviously sore and bruised anybody got any tips for recovery.
Hi Zante
I had a full Nephrectomy a few weeks ago and I know that it took me a couple of weeks before I felt like doing a great deal. Plenty of rest and slowly your body tells you when you can do more. I am now feeling a great deal better and my scars are healing nicely.
Take care and hope that you get on well in your recovery

Hi Betty123 I am very happy your recovery is going well.i am currently bed bound with the odd trip to the toilet and a shower once a day at the moment. I would love to do more than I can but I'll have to wait for the pain and swelling to go down regards Mark
Sorry that you are bed bound but know that everything you do for a time makes you feel exhausted. I don't know if you are having to inject yourself with the blood thinning injections like I had to as this didn't help as my stomach became black and blue from the injections and swollen from the operation.
Slowly the pain and swelling does ease and each day you will start feeling a little better.
Once my scars were no longer weeping and starting to knit together I started to use Bio oil which my friend a retired nurse recommended as it does help with the scarring and feels lovely on the skin.
Just remember you are not alone and you will get through it.
Take care
Betty
Hi Betty123,
I know what you mean the injections were the worst for me I hated every evening when I had to inject myself, there was me trying to find a bit that was not bruised and sore my husband trying to pinch my tummy while I put the needle in, it was the worst 28 evenings I have ever had my scar was fine no pain just the injections, I am glad you and Zante are both doing well in recovery, I know everyone is different but I do hope you are quick to get back to normal
I was shown how to do the injections in my stomach in the hospital and they didn't mention the top of the leg. However I do know many people prefer to do it there. I did think I might have to do it there near the end as my stomach became very bruised but thought it might be more painful there and a bit scared that I might inject into a muscle.
When I was told about having to inject myself, they said either stomach, or top of leg, I opted for the latter. I didn't like the idea of doing it in my stomach, though it took a little while to get used to it. Things take time, but perseverance and patience helps, along with resting when you can.

I had a partial nephrectomy 2 weeks ago, I still feel a bit sore but just rest when you need to. Don't try to run before you can walk, I've now started going out for a walk each day and I feel a bit more better, your body will tell you what you can and can't do. Take care x
