Hi everyone
I've been diagnosed with kidney cancer. I'm going in next week for a partial nephrectomy. Even though it's being removed I'm still not dealing with it very well. I'm crying all the time and feel so down and depressed, I'm also worrying about the surgery
Hi
I've been through a nephrectomy 8 weeks ago. I am almost back to full health physically. I'm still working on the mentally bit but as bad as the surgery seems the surgeons will have done this kind of thing so many times. This is how the surgeon put it to me prior to my op. His exact words were "This operation will probably be one of the biggest and scariest things that you've ever faced but for me I won't be having a big breakfast". And that helped me settle a bit. Not sure it would work for everyone but it did for me.
I hope all goes well for you. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being down about it and having a cry. It's a horrible thing. Stay as positive as you can and look beyond the op at things your going to do during and after recovery.
Hope this helped
Hi there55,
Welcome to the group you have come to the right place, of course you are worried, crying and probably not sleeping we have all been through it, there is always someone who will be able to help you, all that you are feeling is very normal as for the operation they will take great care of you, if you want to ask about any of your treatment there is also the Macmillan support they are available 8-8 every day of the week, you can talk with a councillor or one of the professionals, they are there for you also if you have friends and family members that you can confide in, keep stong and take care
Hi I had a full nephrectomy 7 weeks ago. Being diagnosed was a huge shock, as I have always been as fit as a fiddle. The operation will go fine it is routine for specialist surgeons. I am almost completely back to normal and going back to work the week after next. Mentally, I struggle, which appears to be quite normal, good and bad days. I spoke with a friend who survived Breast Cancer and she said she had 13 months to come to terms with the Cancer/treatment and recovery and I was trying to do it in 13 weeks (diagnosis to now for me). It helped me find some perspective. I found MacMillan really useful, ask questions, remember roughly 13,000 people are diagnosed with this every year, so you are not alone.
I've been diagnosed with kidney cancer .as of yet they won't do anything as it is only 1.5cm .I would love them to just get rid of it .until that happens I won't be able settle or understand why when finding it really early . they won't take it out .if I'm not busy doing something it there in my thoughts which is not good especially because I've ptsd .please don't worry they Will manage your pain and look after you ,
