Hi im Mark 40 years old. I phoned the secretary for the urologist I'm under and she confirmed my results had come back this morning but she could not give me any information and I had to wait until the doctor and his team discuss my results and apparently this is normal practice for everyone. I Started my journey 3 months ago when going out of hours doctors where they first thought I had kidney stones however after ct scans and ultra sound they found a tumour on left and cysts on right. I was told when I had biopsy its small about the size of nail on your thumb about 2.5cm-3cm but he said because there are tumours that look similar that's why I had to have a biopsy to see if it's a cancerous or not. I was told I'll know more next week once its all been discussed. My question is if it is cancer how long does it take from diagnosis to treatment operation as I'm due to go abroad next month for 2 weeks holiday and worried I might not be able to go.
Hi Mark and welcome to the Online Community. I'm not from this group so can't really answer your question so hopefully others will be along soon to reply.
Having said that it would very much depend on the speed of your local hospital trust. The Urologist's secretary being unable to tell you anything at the moment sounds correct as now your results are in what will happen is a MDT (Multi Discipline Team consisting of surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, CNS, anaesthetists etc.) will meet to discuss your surgery and adjuvant treatment and then you'll usually be added to the next surgery list. Cancer surgeries seem to be prioritised so they'll get you in quickly as a rule.
Some cancers have chemotherapy before surgery and others vice-versa. (I had surgery and Brachytherapy 6 weeks later)
I hate to say it but it might be prudent to check your holiday cancellation insurance.
Sending you all the best, B xx
