That letter

Apparently 1.5 million people are going to get a letter telling them to stay indoors for the duration. The list included protein kinase inhibitors which I think includes drugs like Pazopanib which a lot of us take. Has anyone heard anything? And if we can’t go out, how do we get our medication and have the bloods etc done?

  • Heya,

I just wanted to comment about collecting meds too.

There's an app for your phone called Echo, run by Lloyd's pharmacy. You put in your details, then look for your GP surgery - if they do electronic prescriptions they'll be on the list, if they don't then I'm afraid you can't use the app. You then plug in your medications, doses, and when they need reordered and you're done.

Roughly 10 days before your meds are due, they'll send you a notification to remind you. You then go into the app, tick which medications you want, then say OK. A few days later, your medication arrives in the post! It's excellent!

Hope that helps remove an issue some might be having with the shielding and isolating!

    Xx

Had a couple of calls from the hospital yesterday lunchtime while I was out on my one allocated exercise walk with the dog. They *had* slotted my bloods and face to face consultation in on Friday morning while I’m on the premises anyway for the CT scan. Now, I’m to have the scan, then nip in quickly for bloods, then leg it to the car park; the consultation will be done over the phone at or around the arranged time, even if I’m still in the car on the way home (passenger).  So that’s clarified that. I’d better have my questions succinct and written down in advance.

My next consultation will be when I get the results of the scan, so over the phone is not ideal as I want to be clear about the facts and figures. But it’s not all about me and they’ve got a lot going on for the foreseeable. I half wonder whether, if the results are positive, they might pause my treatment completely for, say, three months while the virus plays itself out, but who knows. There’s so much uncertainty. From time to time I stumble when I find my upbeat mask has slipped down to my knees, but mostly I can adapt to whatever direction the situation goes in.

    All the best, everyone!

  • As regard’s to those of us taking Pazopanib and due to the current threat of Coronavirus I’ve starting looking online about the effect of Pazopanib on the body’s immune system. Although I’ve not read in depth yet some American websites say there is no concrete evidence that Pazopanib suppresses the human body’s immunity system. Any other thoughts/information on this from other people in the same position as myself will be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi

My understanding is that Pazopanib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, ie it stops a tumour from developing blood cells n any more tumours from developing.

    See

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pazopanib

for more info. There's also info on this site n the Cancer Research site.

So it doesn't directly affect your immune system, which is probably why you're getting the results you are in your research.

Pazopanib can cause a low white cell count, so compromised immune system. I've had treatment stopped in the past because my count became too low. It's not guaranteed that everyone will experience that as a side effect, but it definitely exists, both leukopenia and neutropenia

I've had no letter yet - supposedly by Sunday? It's coming out directly from the government - not our GP's or the hospitals. My oncology nurses have been very specific though that I should be staying at home, in isolation - so that's what I'm doing now, except for walking the dog in a very deserted woodland.

I’ve had the letter but I was already acting as if I was in the vulnerable group. Stay safe everyone.

Does it give you any useful information?

It doesn’t suggest how to get help.
