New side effects

Firstly, I would like to wish happy new year to everybody here.

My main side effects initially were intermittent nausea and high blood pressure.

Now, after 8 months of immunotherapy I have aching limbs which are not too bad and really quite a minor issue. I have acid reflux which I am hoping to control by cutting out any food or drink which seems to trigger it. I guess that ultimately I may have to go onto lansaprazole or similar but would like to avoid it if possible.

I also now have early signs of hypothyroidism and will probably have to start taking drugs for that.

And finally I have a macroadenoma on my pituitary gland which causes no issues itself but will have to be surgically removed eventually before it can cause problems. It was discovered by chance when having a CT scan for aches in the back of my head (which was fine). I have since had an MRI and a petct scan. This last could not be carried out at my local NHS as they don't have a pet scanner but at Coventry university hospital which is where the op will be performed. It's 85 miles away.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced these things and how did you deal with them ?

Many thanks

Vicki

  • All I can comment on is the hypothyroidism, which I believe is a very common side effect from IO. I take a pill every day and that is it. It may take a while to get the dosage correct but it really is that simple.

  • DC1,

Thank you for your answer. I know I will be having to do the same. Its just the thought that with my BP meds, cancer drugs and, no doubt, antacids as well, that I shall be rattling with them all! Then again, its better than the alternative. Do you know if you have to take them for life or is hypothyroidism reversible when treatment ends ?

  • I have been told it will be for life, my wife has been on them for over 15 years (not IO related) it has just become part of the routine.
