Hi I’ve had metastatic  clear cell RCC for the last two years with mets in my liver bowel pancreas.6 in total.

lenvatinib was shrinking things initially but has stopped working now and I’ve had significant growth so I’m about to start Cabozantinib.

has anyone else been on these two TKI’s back to back?

if so what were your side effects? Tolerance levels etc. thank you in advance

  • Hello Bella (

I am Brian, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer your question myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying, your post will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and replied to by other members of the group.

I wish you well with your new treatment and hope you don't have many side effects.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • I've had the pleasure of these two treatments, just in the reverse order.  I switched from cabozantinib to Levatinib in August.  I was on cabozantinib for 15 months.  The important news is that I saw a big reduction in tumour size initially.  Then I had slow growth in the tumor again, hence the switch.

I've found side effects to be very similar.  First up is the usual fatigue.  I was a fit person but I found my walking limit to be about 5 or 6km with cabozantinib and even less now on Levatinib.  But I can still get out, pretty much every day.

Next major issue has been diarrhea.  I lost a kg every month for 12 months on cabozantinib until I discovered that I had become lactose intolerant.  I only found that out when the nurses suggested I drink more milk to try and increase my weight.  The results of extra milk were disastrous, so I tried switching to lactose free alternatives and my diarrhea cleared almost overnight.  It does limit your choices when eating out, but a minor grievance!

I've seen a few other side effects but generally all sorted out with other supplements such as thyroxin and magnesium or other medication such as mouthwash. Best wishes with the treatment.  I hope you see the same reduction I did.
