So we were told on the 19th may that my mum would get a renal biopsy within 2 weeks, & still she hasn't received a appointment, so wondering if I should chase this up with my mums GP.
Hi jay190880 welcome to the forum..I'm wondering because there has been a public holiday on the 26th of may that this may have delayed communications.. However, if you don't hear by the 2nd of June which is 2 weeks exactly from date of referral, then its worth giving the appointment centre at your hospital a call or if that doesn't help then yes contact the GP..Best wishes for now. Gail
I contracted macmillian support help line & was told not to contract the GP, as they wont know & will be told to wait, I called thr appointment centre today & was told no appointment yet ( but phone back Monday) but it's been reviewed by a multidisciplinary team today.
2 weeks sounds a bit ambitious to me and super speedy for the NHS. I was told "within 6 weeks" which is prettty damn quick in NHS timescales and I think I got the appt in 4 weeks, or was it 2 weeks - I can't remember.
Unless the GP requested the biopsy, I wouldn't chase them. I would chase the admin area for biopsy or ask the consultant where the referral went to, and phone them up.
A consultant requested a biopsy & he said 2 weeks from my mum appointment, ( me, my sister & mum heard the same timescale) also spoken to macmillian support line, who told me to chase it & we know where the referred went too, as it should be made in 7 days after the initial appointment, luckily im in a position I can go down the private route to get the biopsy done.
7 weeks from a consultation with nephrologist to the biopsy for me mines in July. Just one question when can you actually drive again after it. I have not been told, I have read some things like 24-48 hours or 7 days. I’ve been told I can’t do any heavy lifting lift for 2 weeks after by my consultant. But I need to know when I can actually drive as I am recently widowed I will have to be reliant on family support.
Hi toosoon,
I can only relate my own experience regarding a renal biopsy.
Mine was done late morning and I was able to drive the following morning. Because my husband doesnt drive and we live far away from family we booked into a hotel near the hospital.
I think the main thing they worry about is in case you have to make an emergency stop which could possibly cause problems with the biopsy site.
I hope this has helped. I found the worst thing was having to lie flat on my back for 2 hours after the biopsy. Otherwise it was fine.
Good luck
