I’m pleased to say that I had surgery yesterday. All went well and with the tumour they removed some nodules. These will be examined in the lab.I am relieved that it is over. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I was well dosed with anti sickness medicine. I am going to manage without morphine just paracetamol. I can’t take morphine. Apparently I was hallucinating after surgery so I was in recovery longer than average. I’m hoping to go home later today.
Dear Monkey Wolf. I’m sorry that you are still waiting for a surgery date. I hope it is soon.
The pain that I am experiencing is minimal now. It is more like tugging and a little burning but easily relieved with paracetamol.I’m up and dressed and showered although for me it is leggings and a baggy shirt. I’m sure I will feel better if we can go for a walk. OH is looking after me but it is all ready meals as he can’t cook. I have lots of fresh fruit. I also have a really bad sore throat which I’m hoping is just a cold.
It's very useful to know the things I am likely to need: embolism socks, the triangle pillow (that I hope you have managed to get), the baggy garments. Not to mention the possible need of sleeping pills etc.
From signing the consent to operation paperwork, how long did you have to wait?
Thanks in advance.
They will give you the TEDs embolism socks in hospital. They will be put on before you go to theatre. I have got a V shaped pillow which I got from John Lewis. I would take in to hospital as little as possible. I wore a hospital gown all the time I was there. Slippers, a phone and a really comfortable dressing gown was all that was needed. Everything else is provided. I did not get my phone back unti 10.30pm that evening as it was still in the admissions lounge. In my particular hospital everything was tagged. There was no locker. We went to see the surgeon on the 8th May. I had a phone call about two weeks before and a letter. Surgery was on the 13th June,
With my partial nephrectomy I was sent home with a couple of months worth of needles contacting a blood thinner to stop clots. I had to inject myself in my tummy ever night. It was easy to do to be honest, Think it was heparin.
Hi EJ
Other than this small hole, how is your recovery progressing? Are you managing to keep yourself busy?
Still no appointment for me. Next Weds will be 4 weeks since signing consents and pre-op. Feeling a bit glum tonight with the waiting and have been very ill-tempered at work.
All the best
Neil (Monkey-Wolf)
Hi Neil. I’m not doing too badly. I’m keeping an eye on the incision that does not seem to have closed properly.
Neil as you have had the pre op then an offer of surgery won’t be too far behind. As your surgery might be more complicated then they want to have the right surgeons there to do the op.We have a bed booking line which we can ring ( if you can get through )to check the progress of your admission. I did check but it made no difference On the day my op was brought forward as the surgeon thought it might be more difficult than the other patient being operated on.
I’m sure you will hear about your op soon
