Annual CT scan has shown “something”

Doctor has just phoned about result of CT scan, which had just gone to annual after nephrectomy in 2020. He was very cagey and did not give any details except to say that he needed to discuss with senior colleagues and I could expect to be called in for a face to face appointment at the hospital within 2-3 weeks. He asked how close we live to the hospital.  I told him I had been feeling tired lately but had assumed that was post Covid, no loss of appetite. Feeling a bit panicky now and wondering what to expect. Any advice about what questions to ask or what to expect?

  • I’ve got my first follow up scan next week. I suppose we all hope that the news will be positive, but have that slight niggle that it won’t be. The wait of two to three weeks knowing that there is something is very hard, I can’t understand why they need to be so cagey- knowledge is the key to alleviating worry. Fingers crossed that it’s nothing too serious - try not to best guess what it’ll be and if they have noticed a change hopefully they’ve caught it early and it can be treated effectively. Good luck.

  • Thank you for replying. I hope your scan result will bring you positive news, ChasM. I do agree that waiting for the result increases anxiety.

  • Just an update: yesterday I learnt that the “something” was a small growth on the vena cava. I have been transferred from Urology to Oncology and expect an appointment in the next few weeks.

  • Fingers crossed that it’s something that can be dealt with quickly, Hope that they manage to get you in sooner than predicted. Good luck.
