Hi my husband has stage 3-4 kidney cancer it's in both kidneys and his lungs, he's been on immunotherapy since December which was working but when he went down to the one drug instead of 2 the treatment has stopped working and the tumors on his kidneys have grown 20%, he has an appointment next Thursday with consultant, does anyone know if they can give him different drugs to try , or will this be the end I'm stressing so much , also he doesn't have a spleen so doesn't have a natural immune system x
From the discussions I've had with my onco, if my immunotherapy didn't work, or stopped working, then another immunotherapy would be on the radar. I know the one he has in mind. I have lung mets too. Lots of options, I doubt this is "the end" as you put it. I remember watching a video on the kidney cancer uk web site about a young girl diagnosed with KC. She went through loads of immunotherapy treatments, one after another. Some just didn't work, some worked for a few months.
Hello Betty Boo. Sorry to hear your husbands immunotherapy has stopped working.
Obviously it will take your oncologist to give you the definitive answer but since immunotherapy stopped working for me I went onto targeted inhibitor treatment in the form of Cabozantonib.
Difficult wait for you but don’t give up hope. Please let us know how things go on Thursday. Will be thinking about you both.
Hi sorry its been so long replying , my husband has been put on tablets and given ensure to build him up as his iron levels are still very low, he's started to feel a little bit better energy wise and will have a scan in about 8 weeks, he's been in hospital twice with blood clots so now on aspirin as well xx
Dear Betty Boo , I to have the stage 4 kidney I've been on the drug Cabo for 4.5 years now. The tumours shrunk
the last scan has shown there is fresh growth, on my remaining kidney
the new treatment offered was going to be targeted radiotherapy, ( as a trial) but due to the fact I already took one kidney out , it wasn't going to be an option. Now I'm bored in for tomorrow, Monday 14, Aug for a course of nivolumab, once every 2 weeks.
I tried the iron liquid. It didn't work for me,
but my nurse says, she could arrange of an iron injection that should stay longer that 24 hours in the body.
there is light for your husband , tell him to keep fit. Even walking helps.
till next time regards ,
