Hi, is anyone on Axitinib and Dexamethasone? Just read on few places that dexamethasone makes Axitinib less likely to work.

My mum just finished first cycle of Axitinib (5mg) and she was on Dexamethasone (4mg). DR. increased her dose of Axitinib to (7mg),because he said her blood tests Re ok. She  hasn't  started yet,  because some constipation than diareea problems. She struggles with extreme fatigue,  lack of strength and nausea. She won't have immunotherapy with axitinib because of poor performance and also because she is on dexamethasone. This is her 2nd line.of treatment,  befor she had Cabozantinib with dexamethasone for 3 months and her cancer got worse.

  • Hello Roxi

I am sorry to see about your Mum's journey with kidney cancer. It must be hard to see her struggling with the fatigue, lack of strength and nausea. I hope that Mum is getting good support from her CNS and team and they would be the first people I would ask about Mum's treatments as they know all her medical history etc.

As you have questions about her medication - axiitinib and dexamethasone, I wonder if it is worth giving the support line a quick call and speaking to one of the nurses. They would be able to confirm whether dexamethasone and axitinib have any interactions. This would be the quickest way or alternatively we have an Ask the Expert section on here. I will post a link below. They would normally get back to you within a couple of working days.

I hope this helps a bit but if there is anything else that you or Mum need, please do ask.
