Hello - I had a nephrectomy in April 2022 and started Immunotherapy in July. Unfortuantly after 4 treatments it had to be stopped as it had affected my lungs - which have since cleared.

I had a CT scan in February and the renal cancer had spread to 2 small metastisis in the right lung. The CT scan last week showed these have grown slightly but my lymph nodes are now affected. I am going to have a biopsy just to check it is renal cancer, although everyone is pretty sure it is.

If confirmed i wiill have to start on Pazopanib which is one of the TKI drugs - TKIs are the only option and I will have to take them for the rest of my life or until they stop working. The side effects don't sell themselves! I am just wondering if anyone else has taken these drugs and how they felt. Not that I have much choice but it has been an arduous 13 months as I have had some other more moinor medical problems that have actually caused me more pain than the Cancer.

Of course I am hoping to hear some good things about this treatment, but if you had some prolems but found a way to cope with them I would love to hear. Kirsty x

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I don't have any experience with the drug pazopanib but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen.

I've searched the group for previous posts which mention pazopanib and found these. You could have a read through some of the more recent ones and reply to any where you think the posters might be able to help you further.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi latchbrook. Many thanks for sending the link to encouraging stories of pazopnib. I have updated my prodfile as you suggested. I read yours, you really have been on a long and difficult journey. Wishing you well with your latest scan results.

    1. Hi I have been diagnosed with stage four cancer. I had my right kidney removed in 2016 and had annual scans till two growths were spotted in my lungs. They were surgically removed and in 2022. Since then further growths in my lungs were reported. I was diagnosed with stage four cancer. I have been on pazobanib for 12 weeks with no significant side effects apart from my hair going white, a slight rise in my blood pressure. I’m a bit more tired but have a heavy manual job and still able to work. I’m due my first scan in a few days. I feel fine and would say don’t worry about side effects you will be closely monitored and helped. I hope you have good luck and best wishes.
  • Thanks Icor - encouraging to hear your journey. Good luck with the scan results.

  • I have found pazobanib manageable and the only real change for me is alcohol is only one or two drinks which I am now used to. White hair doesn’t bother me and the tiredness is manageable. I hope you’re experience is symptom free and everything goes well.
