Hello, I am probably going to be having a kidney biopsy sometime soon.
I have read that I have to lie on my back for 4 hours afterwards. I have breathing issues and can't breathe properly lying on my back unless I am propped up.
Do you think I won't be able to get the biopsy?
Hi Lucy, I hope that you are doing as well as can be expected.
I had my biopsy about a year ago and recall lying totally flat for about an hour, I could then have my head raised a little to have a drink. I would ask your macmillan nurse who should be able to enquire with the hospital……they must have come across this before
Let us know what they say.
Take care, Jules xx
Hi - I had a kidney biopsy in Oct 2021. Lying on your back afterwards (yep, 4 hours for me) is to help stop localised bleeding at the biopsy site, I think. I wouldn't have thought it was a show stopper. I am sure the hospital will be able to manage it appropriately.
I too have breathing issues (COPD) and had a biopsy at the beginning of January. Yes i had to lie on my back for a number of hours but they spoke to me beforehand and I was given pillows to prop me up just far enough to make me comfortable.
