Cabo side affects

Hi everyone, I have kidney cancer that has spread to my liver and am on Cabozantinib with my first scan 3 months later coming up soon. So praying it has stabilised the cancer. In the meantime, I have a few side affects - most are manageable…. Sore feet, facial acne, hair going totally white, and taste buds changes and also gas. The gas is linked to intestine issues I guess….. so my question is can we take a probiotic to help with gut health? I’ll ask my oncologist too but just wondered if anyone is doing this?

  • Hi I saw a link that suggested probiotic and gut health optimised reaction to immunotherapy drugs.   But I didn't follow it's recommendations (for long) as I was having a good reaction to my immuno drugs - too good in fact, I had to take a break and some mitigating steroids to calm things down.

The gas thing sounds weird.  I think people experience this after a nephrectomy.

I've had some taste changes too, but it went away.

  • Hello Seabreeze

i am similar to you in that my kidney cancer has spread to my liver. I have been on Cabo since July 2021. I am now on 20mg from 40mg.

I have had none of the symptoms you mentioned apart from sore feet which turned out to be corns. My main side effect is lack of energy.

I have just bought Kefir to boost my immunity but need to check with my specialist nurse on Friday to check if this is ok.

let me know how you get on with your scan.Am hoping it’s good news for you.

    best wishes
