Pleural Effusion & change of treatment

My husband was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer 2.5 years ago, had the kidney removed and started on Sunitinib 6 months ago.  He is currently in hospital after the tumors that had grown in his lung have continued growing and have caused a total pleural effusion and collapsing the lung. The Oncologist would like to start a new treatment but the fluid around the lung complicates things.  My question is: Does anyone have any experience of this and being on any treatment at the same time as a pleural effusion? The consultant will not explain what the complications may be and I do not know if it possible.  Many thanks to anyone with any insight into this.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who does.

While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
