Hello

I was diagnosed on NYE with Hodgkins and will be having a biopsy tomorrow.

I'm obviously scared and frightened, alongside the heady concoction of denial (it doesn't feel like it's me), sadness, hope (it's really treatable and the success rate is high), attempts to distract myself and confusion. .

How did you guys find dealing with the bit before you find out the extent of everything? I mean, I don't know what stage it's at or anything  so it's a bit of a daunting question if I look over it. What happens after the biopsy?

Sorry, so many questions... just thought it'd be nice to find people who also went through the same.

Thank you so much in advance

Tom

Jakki; that was my first thought too on hearing the cricket results earlier, on the radio!
Sounds like you had a fabulus time away. Wish I could risk a trip away, whilst I've been on chemo, but, it just seemed too much of a risk,  and especially as we could only do it, as we always do on public transport etc, that does limit it a bit, when I'm  potentially so up and down at times, with energy/fatigue. - Really starting to feel now like I've suddenly more energy the last few days. concentration up  too, and back it seems to cooking again, rahter than relying on horrible junk food I've had to eat mainly the  last four months whilst on chemo as I was too tired, and unable to cook properly. - may make a small batch of  pitta/pizza dough tomorrow  (basically able to be used to make either); which I can keep in the fridge a few days, and make fresh pitta, in a few minutes, then whenever I want, or, of course make pizza with it, if there's enough  dough left... been so long since I last made bread...

Time for another Lush-inspired-[provided bath soon, to relieve some aching muscles. I didn't sleep at all again last night; got to bed quite late, listened to dawn chorus at 4 AM, and I think I was nearly asleep at about 6, when I got the most painful cramp! - gave up at that point and  just got up and put the kettle on to make coffee.. feeling supprisingly alert despite lack of sleep; seems that I sleep about only 3 nights now, of a week, and then, often only two hours a night. - not sure about 8 hours a night, 8 hours a week would be a step up for  me at the moment.

Tom well done on the smoking, I must admit I've never even tried an E-cig; though, I do cheat myself, somewhat in terms of having quit smoking... yes, I'm not actually smoking anymore, haven't for about four months now I guess, maybe five, but I do  indulge in Swedish snus (a sort of chewing/mouth tobacco), sometimes.... rather more often than I probably should, really... I guess my consultant would do their nut if they knew I did it... - even worse... yes, I have sat in chemo, recieving my drugs, whilst having snus in my mouth... yeh... I know... oops...

    Hi Jakki,

Keeping an eye on me, ooer missus what have I done :-)

Yeah good result at the cricket, mind you I didn't mind who won as I have a close association with New Zealand - lived there for 10 years and most of my father's family live there. I'm just pleased that something is being done at last with the team and coaches.

Not too spritely today mouth a bit yucky but feeling pretty tired, I guess the weather isn't helping been overcast with a cold northwesterly blowing, glad to hear that you had a good weekend in N Yorks.

    Phil xx

Name mix up I meant John, in case he steals all the page 100 posts lol!

Sorry you are feeling yuck mouth and tired but it's still early days after 5b, hopefully you'll start to pick up over the next couple of days.

Wow, you lived in New Zealand, hubby and I have a visit there on our bucket list. I'd like to get a camper and drive round there but Hubby thinks we should do hotels. Hey ho I'll keep badgering, I got him to go camping quite a few times so I might wear him down.

    love Jakki xx

  • Hi all, please welcome another Hodge-dodger, Cezza who posted on the other group and is feeling a bit lonely.....

Phil, I saw the good cricket results and thought of you, never knew you'd lived down under, I was nearly brought up a Kiwi, but parents thought about my Gran being on her own and decided against it. Jobs for my Dad were really hard to find post WW2, he all but went over there, they got the papers agreed and everything. Would love to go and see it but it's an awful long trip!

Jakki, glad you had a wonderful long weekend, I did wonder if you'd hot tub but think you were sensible to avoid it. Sensible, too, to rest as you needed!

Mark, is it time to get Lush-ing yet?

Tom and everyone else, keep trucking and keep safe, Jakki is right about frozen veggies being fresher than fresh! (sounds odd but you know what I mean), the only ones to beat that are the ones you pick and pop directly into the pot yourself, within moments! (looking forward to a taster of ours, broad and runner beans, carrots and peas- I pick them almost before hubs sees the pods, they are so sweet!) We don't grow many bit it is lovely to taste them,

    Hugs to you all xxx

Ah chemo brain, poor John :-)..........Camper holidays are very popular and there are loads of sites to stay on but it's also very easy to hire a car and tour as there are motels in abundance, no booking just turn up, usually self contained with kitchens etc. Hotels tend to be big and expensive in the major cities. It's a big country with few people so country towns tend to be few and far between. Phil xx

Yes;  moomy; about the time you posted that I was descending.... dangerously into the hottest possible water I can tollerate! - yeh... i know ... but. there is something about having it that hot.... the ... soothing affects really do seem to seep inwards and reach my bone marrow... - well its all psychiological I guess in many ways, but with the scents... and... damnit.... I'm getting way too obsessed by bathing!; today's was a new one; a bubble bar, called something like marsh mellow... or... err, chemo-brain I can't recall; it smelt gorgeous... all sweet and ... like a sweety shop... and... marsh mello! - I had that in the bath, and also a bath-melt.... - super soft skin again after.... and super relaxed too, and muscles all untensed - sat for a while after talking to William on  the phone, mainly about food and the prospect the weather might be good Thursday, and if I'm not too whiped out by my final chemo we can have a nice long walk back home afterwards.... - I've decided against the hip flask during my final chemo... that is way too risky; but.... kind of getting tempted by the idea of a pub visit on teh way home, assuming I'm feeling that is a good idea, immediately after the last chemo infusion (after some of the earlier infusions we went to the pub after and I had a pint, en-route home).

now settling down for a few hours to catch up with the online world and twitter and E-mails, before hopefully sleeping tonight...

hope everyone is doing OK this evening - a fairly empty day tomorrow, hope to get a few useful things done around the house, before chemo Thursday...try get ahead as much as possible, - may consider making bread, depending if I sleep tonight, and what time I get up etc...

    Hi All,

hope you've had some sunshine to enjoy today, I managed to get loads of gardening done and have lunch outside with a friend so I definitely had my fill of vitamin D.

Mark I loved the Lush products hubby bought, so far have used the floating island bath melt and a fruity bubble bar. Think I will go for a bomb tonight.

I have a blustery rash on my shoulder, it came up last time I had chemo and again this time it seems to dry up before the next chemo anyone got any ideas? I also get very dark patches on my skin if I scratch anywhere, they don't go away.

    love Jakki xx
