I'm on stage 3 of ABVD treatment for Hodgkinson lymphoma 4 stages in total, maybe more

Is it possible to work while undergoing chemo - is anyone doing this?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.

I don’t have Hodgkin's Lymphoma but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (Stage 4a) so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

Over the years I have helped out in this corner of the  Community this question has often come up and yes, some folks were amazingly able to work throughout their treatments but much more could not.

ABVD is full on so the body takes a considerable hit…… so fatigue will develop over the cycles. You then have to consider the window of infection risk. This tends to be from days 7-14 where you can dr eloping some challenging infections.

Thus us a personal choice and it depends on how well you can read your body and not overdo stuff. There is a lot of positives in trying to keep some normality going especially with regards to the post treatment recovery - the less physical activity you do during treatment the longer the physical recovery can be post treatment. There is also the mental challenge with dealing with treatment so it important to try and keep the mind occupied as best as you can,

I have a very complicated type of Lymphoma and did manage to keep working throughout my first 12 years of treatments (See my story) but eventually I gave in and took early retirement as it was just to much…… and a year late my condition kicked in big style Rolling eyes

So no real answers from me but do what you hear your body say it can do but don’t overdo stuff and result in your post treatment recovery being longer.

    Always around to chat.
