Hard moveable lump on neck

Hello everyone, I have commented on a couple of groups here on Macmillan, I suffer immensely with health anxiety. Constantly worried I have cancer. I have just had the all clear after thinking I had anal cancer. The last week or so I have had a small hard moveable lump on the left side of my neck. Obviously me being me I’m convinced again that if I haven’t got cancer in one part of my body I have it elsewhere. I feel so frustrated with myself for feeling like this when it’s probably nothing and there’s so many of you out there that are going through this awful disease. I had my bloods done a few weeks back to check my thyroid and had a FBC too which al came back normal. I have got a phone appointment on Monday with the doctor...again, to talk about this lump, just after some reassurance and if anyone has been through this and it coming back fine.

Thankyou for reading.

  • Hi , I was having a look at your other posts on the site and I 'get' your concerns but great that following all your tests nothing has been found.

It is good that you are having a conversation with your Doctor and lets see if they can help you reduce this anxiety and give you some answers.

Small movable lumps?....... I have one on my neck, its been there for a good number of years now and I know its not an issue....."a fatty lump" my Haematologist called it. I have been through a lot of treatment for my type of Lymphoma (Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma) and due to the very many tests the lump has shown up just as the doctor described it.

The only real problem I have with the lump is the pain I get from the slipper thrown by my wife as I mindlessly fidget with it and in doing this makes the area tender and the lump slightly inflamed.

I would hazard a guess that you did a Google search for 'lump on my neck' and Lymphoma will come up....... but there are lots of other reasons for this that are not cancer related.

Good luck with your call and make sure you have a note of all the questions you are going to ask your doctor.

  • Thankyou for your swift reply, sorry to hear that you have been going through this? Are you still going through treatment?

Honestly, I literally get a clear result and I move on to another part of my body.

that’s some reassurance that you have had one for so long and it’s just fatty tissue, this is what I’m hoping my outcome will be. I get slight tenderness if I move my neck in an awkward way or too fast, also get slight pain on the right side of my neck but no lump there. I’m trying to put the lump down to my piercing being infected, which has been for months, or the fact that I suffer really bad with itchy scalp and scabs. But then I fall straight back to cancer afterwards.

have you had any other symptoms with it other than you wife throwing a slipper at you lol.

yes google is my worst enemy and I will type different things in to get the same outcome and always go to worst case scenario.

    thankyou :)

  • also I have lost almost a stone in weight since September, everyone keeps saying it’s stress and anxiety and the fact iv gone back to doing all school runs after lockdown was lifted the first time round.

  • My story is very long and you can hit my community name to see it. But I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare (skin) CTCL. I was told “Mike this is incurable but treatable but you will never see any remission”

Fast forward to September 2016 (after a lot of treatment) I was told I was in remission for the first time in 17 years.

Apart from a rash I had no symptoms and my bloods were clear for the first 14 years.

Infections will make your lymph-nodes react al over the place. Let’s see what your doctor says but my advice is..... until you are told you have cancer you don’t.

  • Hi,

Like Mike I agree that the lump could be a number of things, and until you are seen by a doctor then no-one will know what it is, especially not google!

I’m sorry you’ve been having stress problems and to be honest, weight loss can occur as a result of that alone. But it is worth mentioning that too when you see a doctor.

I hope it turns out to be nothing untoward.

  • I have read your story! Wow, u have been through a lot, and well done for fighting such a battle. So happy that you finally went into remission.

I have just had my phone consultation with the doctor, she was very thorough asking me different questions about the lump and other symptoms. She seemed happy that the lump was moveable. She is going to call me in 4 weeks for a review to see how I am getting on, wether it’s causing more problems, changed in shape or size etc. She has put it down to be a lipoma. I feel slightly better but still have the worry that “if” it’s something is it going to get much worse in 4 weeks?

also I have just noticed the same sort of pea size lump on my 4 year olds neck so now I’m worried for him too, will call the doctors tomorrow to have his checked out Too!

  • Good that your Doctor is actually taking your serious and keeping an eye on you and that you will have a follow up in a few weeks.

Honestly, the only thing that could change during these few weeks is your stress and anxiety..... don't over think this, keep an eye, record changes so you are ready for your next appointment.

But park the stress and anxiety as in reality, you can throw as much stress and anxiety at this and it will make no difference to what you are told.... but can make a big difference to you between now and then.

Going by my 4 under 7 year old granddaughters - lumps and bumps come and go.... it is part of growing unfortunitly.

    Keep us updated.

  • Thankyou for replying again so quickly. I will try my utmost hardest to stay positive and less stressed and anxious during this time, I guess spending the festive season with my 3 children will definitely keep me occupied! Thankyou for your words. And Thankyou for reassuring me about my 4 year old!

  • As Mike said, lumps and bumps on youngsters do indeed come and go. It’s always possible that a reaction to an infection will start them up!
glad your doctor is following you up though, I hope that’s reassured you.
