Six months post radiotherapy safe to go to a sauna

I know this seems a bit trivial after all we are going through or have been through.
I had to postpone a trip away in summer to celebrate feeling better post treatment because my thyroid gave up the ghost.

We are going this weekend now I'm feeling a lot better, and at my six month post treatment check this week the oncologist and specialist nurse said it was safe for me to have a sauna. I looked online and it says it's not really recommended.

i just wondered if anyone else had had a sauna (not too hot or too regularly) after lymph node removal and radiotherapy?
I should just take the specialists word but when I looked online it said different.

any personal experience most appreciated - of course it's not the end of the world if I can't.

thank you

  • I asked this too and the answer I got was provided my irradiated skin was good and I had no Lymphodema it was fine. I think your oncologist and CNS are better judges than Google.

  • I don't go into saunas too often but since treatment I've been a few times.  Just make sure that any scar tissue feels OK and leave if it starts to worry you.

  • Thank you, that's really helpful, and reassuring. You're right, I shouldn't have checked after they told me! Also I read a Finnish person said she goes, and wears a damp towel over her neck just in case, but I think it'll be fine. Thanks again :)
