Never ends- almost a year post treatment

Hi there. Sorry no one has replied to you as yet. This is a worrying time for you both. Radiotherapy although saving our lives can leave us with some significant issues that need managing. Swallowing, dry mouth, taste changes to name a few. I had a temporary tracheotomy while in ICU recovering from my ops for jaw cancer so I know how frustrating it can be. There are definitely people on this forum who have had throat tissue damage resulting in both tracheotomies and feeding tubes. I do hope someone pops up soon to give you both some encouragement. Chris one of our champions is one of those who has been on this road for some time. 

I have some permanent issues from having 3 ops and radiotherapy for jaw cancer over time. For me I am fortunate that I am able to manage those issues although they have changed my life significantly. I do hope that your husband's condition improves with medical assistance.

It is just as hard for the support person as for the patient so look after yourself too.

Good morning Inbattle, I have had tissue damage and nerve due to operations and surgery although I never suffered from bleeding like your husband, the damage did affect my swallowing so I have a permanent Peg feeding tube, it also damaged areas in my vocal area so when I had my voice box removed I could not use a speech valve (TEP) so just use a phone app to communicate or by writing. Sorry I'm not much help to your husband and I hope they manage to sort this issue out. Wishing you and your husband all the best, take care.
