I said in my first post I would report in after treatment,  well treatment finished on 10 July,  7 weeks radiotherapy for unknown primary and scc in right side lymph node, tonsillectomy with no histology but hpv16 + chemo not allowed due to heart attack after tonsillectomy,

MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE AT WESTON PARK CANCER HOSPITAL IN SHEFFIELD AND MY MACMILLAN TEAM AT BARNSLEY HOSPITAL ALSO WESTON PARK HOSPITAL CHARITY TRANSPORT TEAM WHO PROVIDE FREE MINIBUSES FOR ALL PATIENTS IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE AND NORTH DERBYSHIRE.

So treatment started ,a little panic when the mask was clipped in place but that soon passed as everyone had said we are treating you to cure you, so I concentrated on those words..... to cure you..... those three little words have been so meaningful and became me mantra when feelings of despair tried to take over my brain . So by week 3 of treatment I'm on pregabolin and oxycodone and various mouthwashes , everything I ate tasted of cardboard mixed with thick wallpaper paste, which really affected my mood but my mantra kept the negative stuff at bay, lived on poached fish and mashed potatoes  at week five I'm on 4/5 fortisips a day aswell as poached eggs/fish and very soggy cornflakes,  the pain levels were incredible and indescribable and will never be forgotten

So 10 July I rang the bell with my partner Carol who has more than proved her love for me, we are both on this journey together.

2 weeks later was definitely the worst, by week 4 of recovery ended up with shingles but at that point my food intake was pretty  dam good  I was getting stronger by the day, and at week 10 I've returned to work (part time), mri scan booked , a week in the lake district booked , life is getting better everyday.

Never under estimate yourself,  I managed to find an inner strength that I didn't know existed within me, have faith in yourself!!!!!!

  • Hi Trucker61, well done, you are doing great. These positive posts are really good for those who are on the same journey, it gives them inspiration.
