Hi all.
33 sessions of radiotherapy for thyroid cancer finished in June. I am 42.
Before starting I had hospital dental appointment to check if any of my teeth needs removing, etc.
Everything was fine, no removals.
I was given advice on dental hygiene moving forward.
And some of it seriously worried me.
I limit sugar intake a lot, but my morning coffee is my "me time". I have expensive coffee machine, that's how serious I am about my morning brew.
I like it with loads of milk, but I cannot force myself to stop using sugar.
Dentist told me I have to stop all sugars immediately, otherwise I will be in real trouble.
I have good oral hygiene, strong teeth, that come after my dad, he never seen a dentist in his life and had all teeth at the time of death and no problems with them.
I know to some that will be no issue, I understand.
However for me it feels like cancer took so much from me, and even that half an hour before work every morning, need to be spoiled as otherwise I will become toothless.
Will having 2 sugar in your coffee in the morning really cause me so much problems?
I would like to hear your stories, good or bad.
Thank you.
Izzy.
I still enjoy the honey my bees produce. I use Duraphat tooth paste twice or thrice daily, brush before breakfast, and have a fluoride varnish every three months. In nearly eight years I have no new caries. I lost a front tooth because a thirty year old crown failed but that’s nothing to do with eating sweet things.
I don’t often snack but when I do I rinse my mouth out with water and swish with a fluoride mouthwash.
PS
The idea behind brushing when you get up in the morning is to remove overnight plaque which the bacteria from breakfast would feast on.
